California Mulls Ban On All Gas And Diesel Truck Fleets
Nation and State ^ | 11/25/2022 | Tyler Durden

Posted on 11/25/2022 9:02:52 PM PST by SeekAndFind

California's Air Resources Board has laid out a plan to ban all diesel-powered trucks that would cause inflationary ripples throughout the entire economy.

The plan would mandate that all new trucks operating around busy railways and ports be zero emission vehicles by 2024 - while all diesel trucks would be phased out by 2035, and eventually, banishing every truck and bus fleet from California roads by 2045, where feasible, according to SFGATE.

The proposed Advance Clean Fleets regulation first targets the busiest trucking areas in the state — around warehouses, sea ports and railways. The board says the pollution in these areas affects communities disproportionately.

"Many California neighborhoods, especially Black and Brown, low-income and vulnerable communities, live, work, play and attend schools adjacent to the ports, railyards, distribution centers, and freight corridors and experience the heaviest truck traffic," wrote the board, which asserts that this type of pollution creates health risks for those communities.

Representatives from the trucking and construction industries were livid at a recent hearing on the issue - where over 150 public commenters voiced their opinions ranging from the state's woefully inadequate grid, to a general lack of charging capacity to handle a massive shift to zero-emission vehicles so quickly (whose electricity would in part be generated by coal).

"The infrastructure cannot be established in the timeframe given," said American Trucking Association representative Mike Tunnell. "Fleets will have to deploy trucks that cannot do the same job as their current trucks."

Another speaker, construction company CEO Jamie Angus, pointed to logistical issues involved with charging electric vehicles.

"This will do damage to us. We don't really understand how to charge these vehicles," he said, adding "Those pieces of equipment go home with those men every day, so they'll need to be charged from home? How do you compensate that person for that?"

On the other side of the fence, environmentalists - including the Sierra Club, argued in favor of an expedited timeline to rid California roads of internal combustion engines as quickly as possible.

Maybe they can also figure out how to solve the massive logistical and economic issues that would surely ensue, as well as what to do with all that lithium when the batteries eventually go bad?

Problems in California cause problems across the country, because of their size. If they do this, expect horrible, cascading issues elsewhere.

True so instead, cause them the problems. One reason why gas prices are high is because there are too many standards for the refineries. If they could all just make one formula, it would cut costs

So first step, make a federal mandate on gasoline standards and outlaw states from requiring their own special formulas.

This will create a lot of blow back so as a compromise, allow states that produce more than 50% of their gasoline to set their own standards.

California will refuse and the state will grind to a halt.

Repeat this with electricity. Don't allow them to create their own standards or dictate to the rest of the nation.

Eventually, they will get the hint or their citizens will hang them

A thought just occurred to me- i wonder if that is gonna be part of the end times- they sure could control most of the population thaT way, and it woudl drive people to panic and cause them to want to take the mark in order to be ‘allowed’ things they once enjoyed unrestrictedly.. “Take the mark and be allowed to travel 100 miles a month by car if you want... oh, and you can keep your doctor and health plans too”

It sure would. For crying out loud, we even have FReeepers who advocating taking the vax and bragging on it, to be allowed to do things they enjoy, which nobody had the right to deny them in the first place.

Recharging an EV is but one of the myriad of problems associated with this lunacy.

The battery pack in the New Hummer H3 weighs over 3,000 pounds to move a 9,000 pound vehicle. The gross vehicle weight of a typical tractor-trailer combination is 20 tons or so. How much cargo weight will have to be forfeited in order to allow for the added weight of the battery pack, which will surely be several tons. To say nothing of the increased costs due to the lower cargo capacity per trip.

An EV typically weighs 40% more than a comparable ICE vehicle, due to the weight of the battery pack. Don’t forget to factor in the increased wear on tires, infrastructure and roads, bridges, etc., along with the concomitant maintenance needs and further damage to Mother Earth Gaia as a result...

Much of our governing elites are beyond belief stupid and reckless.

Idiots. That’s not a plan. That’s a wish, and you know what they say about wishes in one hand, etc. Where’s the plan to increase the electric grid capacity and charging stations, and even the vehicles. Where’s the plan with the specs, What, Who, How, and When, the environmental studies, the budget, and all the rest.

exactly

the plan is shut up and get on the bus

This will never happen. They might as well pass a law banning mosquitos.

The technology is not available to achieve this lunacy.

“ Just out of curiosity, have EV trucks and trains been designed and built in sufficient numbers that they could replace everything?”

For what it’s worth, a lot of modern diesel trains are really electric trains with diesel generators. The idea being that a powerful electric motor is best suited for starting motion with a very heavy load. But to your point, battery capacity isn’t close to being able to remove the diesel engine.
