Masking and social distancing should be encouraged or even mandated once more in public in order to protect people from COVID-19 and from the possibility of suffering from "Long COVID," according to a new report from the Department of Health and Human Services.
The report, commissioned by HHS and produced by research agency Coforma, calls for a broad range of government policies to help people who continue to deal with the lingering effects of COVID. Those policies include an awareness campaign, funding for long COVID support groups, financial support for students and workers, and new health benefits for COVID victims.
Reinstating a mask mandate may be the most controversial recommendation in the report, which says ending that mandate in late 2021 and 2022 is making it harder for people with long COVID.
"The lifting of mask mandates and indifferent attitude toward masking and social distancing typical in many public and private places further isolates people with Long COVID," the report said. As a result, policymakers should "encourage or mandate policies and protocols regarding masking and social distancing in public spaces," it said.

I thought that the existence of “long” covid has not been firmly established.
...because short covid is so yesterday, I’m ready to move onto long covid. Que the fauci doll stat
Masks are absolutely useless against a virus particle which is 3 microns big. The gap between your nose and mask looks like the Grand Canyon to an airborne virus.
Masking for who? The people with covid? (Makes sense to mask those ill with an airborne disease) or the people without it.
Silly me. They want their show of obedience again.
Personally. I have felt great after my second bout with kung flu last November. My breathing has improved and I lost, and have kept off, nearly 40 lbs. If that’s my “long covid” I am grateful.
What about medium Covid?...
I’ll say what I said during the first go-round. Ummm no.
Yeah, good luck with that.
Masks might very well exacerbate those conditions by lowering blood O2 and raising blood CO2.
Sooo...I WANT the commie libs gone...want all YOU WANT govt
I had no idea the ability to communicate with the dead was one of the lingering effects of COVID-19.
I see what you did there…
Yet still...
There has never been a conclusive factual study that a mask can stop the transmission of much smaller-than-bacteria, virus. Reduce? Yes but not much until the mask becomes filled with caught virus then it’s a contagion SOURCE.
Wow hhs pulling out all the stops because people are not getting vaxxed and boosted so now it’s masks oh hell no
It’s not just NO! It’s F*** NO! These people simply do not understand that the vast majority of the entire world is sick to the teeth over being persecuted, extorted, threatened, and lied to about COVID. Don’t even try to be civil to the likes of Fauci. He deserves a hangman’s noose for conducting bio-warfare on the human race.
Gawd, these people are so stupid.
Exactly. If they have Covid or some symptoms as a result of Covid, how is me wearing a mask going to protect them from something they already have. They’re just annoyed that you’re not living in fear like they are.
How could I resist? Re:Long Covid. Lingering effects from viral infections are not unknown. But I have my doubt that such should always be attributed to the virus in the case of COVID-19. I think a good many may simply be pyschosomatic. Some may be the result of having been on a ventilator. The vaccines and boosters could explain the problem for some.
However the usual suspects have decided that Long Covid has the potential to be a major public health crisis demanding large amounts of money and authority be thrown at it. That does not mean good things to come.
NO, NO, and HELL NO!
I'm hoping Elon has his resident geniuses working on methods to detect electronic vote fraud. I'm betting that would be a no-brainer for his brainiacs.
