It’s a perfectly fine form of execution that was used everywhere in Europe other than Britain, where they preferred to strangle the condemned with a rope.
Family lore is that my great, great, great grandfather was a clergyman who officiated at beheadings. Not sure whether they used a guillotine or the more traditional axe.
