Now Texas Governor Abbott sends TANKS to the border after threatening to send gunboats - as Republican invokes invasion clause to deal with migrants flooding over border

Texas Governor Greg Abbott is deploying National Guard troops in M113 armored personnel carrier to various positions along the border after earlier threatening to use gunboats in an attempt to quell the influx of migrants at the border.

The news comes after Abbott invoked a Constitutional clause on Wednesday warning President Joe Biden that the Lone Star state would go rogue to defend itself from what he calls a migrant 'invasion' at the southern border.

Texas Military Department officials ordered the 10 armored personnel carriers on Thursday and announced around 50 soldiers would be trained to operate them.

Armored personnel carriers are large, heavily armored vehicles that move on tracks like tanks but are designed to carry troops into battle alongside tanks.

Affectionately known as the 'battle taxi' by troops in the Army, the M113 is bulletproof and can withstand small explosions - the US recently sent 200 to Ukraine for the country's fight against Russia.

It’s just theater. The troops will not forcibly turn anyone away. They will just help to process people. Some may be intimidated by the sight of military and go back, but very few. It may serve to deter some Cartel activity however.

Purely anecdotal, but where I live in Los Angeles County you cannot go into a department store like Target or Walmart without at least 90% of the shoppers there speaking nothing but Spanish and carting along lots of small children. The adults typically use their credit cards, or is it EBT cards? I did see one woman at the check stand, right in front of me, pull out an envelope that must have contained a thousand dollars at least. A huge thick wad of 20’s. She was buying some large ticket items. Where are these people from, and how do they carry around such huge amounts of cash??

It's definitely an invasion from where I'm sitting, and it's continuing with no end in sight.

May be, but the illegals flooding in can not demolish APC’s/114. DO not really need tanks to stop illegals on foot.

It’s not right to hope for a violent conclusion to the woes of an open border. It is the furthest wish of our governor. Innocent people will perish and it would only serve to dishonor my beloved state. Better to ask every able-bodied Texas citizen to make a human barrier to stop illegal immigrants at the Rio Grande.

How does the Kelo decision give the state such ability?
Kelo decision:

Kelo v. City of New London, 545 U.S. 469 (2005),[1] was a landmark decision by the Supreme Court of the United States in which the Court held, 5–4, that the use of eminent domain to transfer land from one private owner to another private owner to further economic development does not violate the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment. ...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelo_v._City_of_New_London

I know its Wikipedia but I don't see anything that's even close to your claim! All I see the Kelo decision do is allow ‘eminent domain’ for private purposes to run a muck

They're flooding across our borders and we'll never, ever, get rid of them.

The only way is with self-deportation. Take away all incentives to stay and prosecute the employers who hire them.

M60’are pretty much gone now. Replaced by the 240. Very similar. I suppose the Guard may still use M60’s.

Nobody with any Military background would consider the M113 APC a “Tank”.

The venerable M113 series can be a platform for many excellent weapons systems, including Dual 50 cal machine guns and Vulcan 20MM cannon, 4000-6000 rounds a minute with a range over 1000 meters. This configuration would slow unauthorized crossings of even the most determined ILLEGAL ALIEN INVADER.

Why a minefield on the border would be humane.

This year over 800 illegal migrants have died crossing into the USA. This does not count those that died on the journey North to the border. Nor does it count those that died in the desert but were not recovered nor known.

A minefield on the border would stop this senseless death. Only the insane walk across a minefield. Border crossing deaths would drop to near zero. Illegal imigration would stop.

The cartels control this influx. It would be a hard sell to tell an illegal immigrant this will cost you a few thousand dollars and “by the way you must cross a minefield at the border. Build a modest fence with signs in multiple languages and with pictures. It says, This is a minefield and it will kill you.”

I admit this is brutal. Its brutality is nothing compared to what is happening on the border today. It should also be noted if you are an attractive female, you will be raped multiple times on that journey North to the border.
