The Mercers, who were among Trump's major benefactors during his first run for president in 2016, are distancing themselves from the former commander in chief's latest White House bid. Federal Election Commission records indicate that after spending millions to help get Trump elected in 2016, both Mercers have largely cut back their support.
GOP megadonors Robert Mercer and Rebekah Mercer have no current plans to help former President Donald Trump's 2024 campaign for the White House, according to people familiar with the matter.
The Mercers, a father and daughter who were among Trump's major benefactors during his first run for president in 2016, are distancing themselves from the ex-president's third White House bid and cutting back their overall campaign fundraising, these people said.

Drag Queen?
Good morning, Snake Boy : )
And everyone else stays home if he wins the GOP nomination.
I made nothing personal. Your words were contradictory—that was my point. They sounded, well, crazy.
She definitely inherited his high forehead. ;-)
Ok. But why say it publicly? Just quite not donate. Will the public find out—maybe eventually, but maybe no one would care to look. I think it was either to virtue signal, to hurt the cause and/or the candidate/Trump? I would find this suspect coming from anyone for any candidate. It’s a turn off. Why bother telling anyone unless one is being a jerk?
quietly don’t donate—ugh.
The usual suspects have slithered in 😂
Let me re-phrase what I wrote because I was not trying to attack you just commenting on your sentences—replace “crazy” (Didn’t mean to insult-sorry) with convoluted/contradictory/nonsensical.
That's the claim anyway.
The truth is that Trump likes to hoard his own wealth and use other people's money for his interests.
Ignore the obvious.
No, his first campaign in 2016 he funded. I think he did take campaign money from the RNC from the 2020 campaign which is different than taking direct donations with an expected return on investment. He also has had the RNC pay for some of his legal bills related to all the impeachment stuff and he has more legal bills that he will have to pay for himself.
That said, we get it, you hate him. Why waste your life coming here to tell that to strangers?
Thanks for the explanation.
That’s a valid point if no one asks.
If someone (media, candidate, etc.) asks it would seem okay to say “we already gave”, etc.
I don’t think Trump’s actually a billionaire, but it doesn’t matter. I thought he’s made it clear he’s not spending his own money to campaign or anything.
It’s his right not to spend his own money if he wants. But he has to get the money from somewhere. But he’d probably be okay with running an underfunded campaign. In fairness, he does get more media coverage than any presidential candidate in history.
Don’t kid yourself:
“Iirc the Mercers supported Ted Cruz in the 2016 primary, then came over to Trump.”
So did a lot of folks including me.
That’s at least a year away. Iowa caucus is January 2024??
