Neither Trump nor McConnell looks triumphant after last week’s elections. Many of Trump’s top candidates lost key races while McConnell emerges as the culprit for losing the majority. McConnell’s PAC, the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), re-routed scarce resources from competitive pick-up opportunities to the Alaska Senate contest between two Republicans. But while several Trump-backed candidates never made it across the finish line, Trump did not deliberately sabotage the effort. McConnell did, and for it, he draw a last-minute leadership challenge from Florida Sen. Rick Scott. Scott, also a popular former two-term governor of Florida, chaired the National Republican Senate Committee this cycle, spending millions on candidates McConnell had abandoned in competitive pick-up races. The NRSC spent heavily in Arizona and New Hampshire, in particular, where the SLF had dropped Republican candidates who had pledged opposition to McConnell for leader.
But despite the challenge, McConnell captured another two years in leadership in a vote of 37-10 by secret ballot. One senator abstained. The vote came less than 24 hours after Trump’s campaign announcement from Mar-a-Lago.
“America’s comeback starts right now,” Trump said. “Your country is being destroyed before your eyes.” Scott’s challenge to McConnell reflects the frustration over the Senate leader’s backdoor efforts to capture a controllable minority over an effective majority. McConnell not only pulled away from key races, but he also whined publicly about purportedly bad GOP candidates.

If sabotage is a gift.
The only good thing I can say about Turtle is that he gave us Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court.
I think there’s a bit of revisionism going on in that article. In the primaries Trump supported candidates were designed to sabotage the careers of existing incumbents. Because of the way Alaska runs their elections, there was another Republican McConnell could have thrown his money behind. But he chose the incumbent.
McConnell is the epitome of the deep state. Nothing will change.
Also, he did keep Garland off the court!
The people doing the deed rarely realize what the consequences will be to them. The Japanese thought Pearl Harbor would make the US give up and let them do as they pleased. Instead, it ensured they won the Canned Sunshine Sweepstakes in 1945.
If there was ever the time for a change in leadership it was now. The GOPe blew it.
True
No, it would be better if the Turtle was gone.
The two sentences, of 13 paragraphs, that are the actual talking point. I would also add/edit "represent the voter HATED by the establishment".
Trump endorsed:..... 254
Trump’s picks win:. 222
Trump’s picks lose:... 32
Many lost?
We took the House with more Conservative players.
We have a potential 48-2-50 situation in the Senate.
Where’s the big loss here?
I should add that of that 222, there were around 17 that
aren’t what I’d call Conservative.
That sill leaves 200+ better people.
Heh heh heh...
If some returned out of that 200+, that obviously wouldn’t
be an improvement up or down.
We did better overall.
If we keep adding Conservatives, each election cycle, it will
help us a lot.
Scott isn’t much better.
I’m tired of patting the Turtle on back for “judges” since ANY Republican would do the same on them.
Change. So millions of dollars and millions of votes and all we get is GOP narrow House control and ejection of Nancy like a pus filled boil?
The Turtle and McCarthy and Dem control of Senate still around? A glacier moves faster.
Good point! Yay, he didn’t betray the American people 100% of the time, only 95%,
Why a secret ballot? I want to know if my Senators voted for him so I can berate them.
In all honesty the SCOTUS and other judicial confirmations had little to no effect on the usual swamp business with which he has enriched himself so he didn’t mind getting that done.
I concur.
