Is NATO hiding the truth behind Poland missile strike to avoid WW3? As Zelensky insists it WAS a Russian rocket, US and European officials also cast doubt over suggestion it was a Ukrainian weapon

This isn't even the first time Ukraine has tried to involve Poland to the point where Poland had to clap back: let's recall that, from much earlier in the conflict back in March, Ukraine's government trumpeted an alleged plan to allow their fighter pilots to take off from NATO bases in Poland, only to be swiftly denied.

----

Over the course of a confusing 48 hours, the EU announced it had brokered an arrangement for member states to allow Ukrainian pilots to start flying their used Russian fighter planes, only to have those countries deny there was any such deal even as Kyiv trumpeted the impending arrival of the jets.

The dissolution of the deal comes as European countries lined up Monday to announce new weapons packages for Ukraine, from anti-armor and anti-air rockets to artillery and medical supplies.

But the announcement Sunday by EU security chief Josep Borrell that fighter jets were also on their way appeared to be a game-changer for European military assistance. Borrell was forced to walk his pronouncement back somewhat by Monday, acknowledging that any transfers wouldn’t come from the EU itself, but would instead be donated “bilaterally” by individual EU countries.

Soon after, a Ukrainian government official told POLITICO their country had sent pilots to Poland to pick up the jets and the Ukrainian parliament announced that the planes from Slovakia, Bulgaria and Poland would soon be on their way. But by Tuesday, Bulgaria and Slovakia said there was no deal to send fighters, and the Polish president, appearing at a Polish air base alongside NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg, said no planes would be flying any time soon.

Then why were the Ukrainians dropping their choppers at such an alarming rate due to poor maintenance during the UNTAC mission the UN finally grounded them and brought in Canadian Bells? I’m not convinced the Ukrainians ever flew entirely sober, either. And they did really stupid stuff, too, like dunk a Mi17 in the bay while trying to copy the cool way the French Pumas took off — a maneuver those old Mi-17s were not capable of performing.

Sorry, I visited Russian garrisons and saw for myself demoralized soldiers painting the rotten tires of their vehicles black before some bigwig was due to arrive. As you can imagine, these soldiers were not amused. Granted, this was over 20 years ago when the Russian army was perhaps at its lowest point. I somehow doubt the Ukrainians’ old Soviet junk is in better shape now than it was then, though.

“The idiot Russian orc programmed in the latitude of Kyiv, Ukraine, but the longitude of Lviv, Ukraine.”

Can’t blame him. He is probably just one of the Russian mobilization troop

But it does answer the interesting question: why Russia agreed to a declaration condemning its own war in Ukraine?

They're just repeating a claim being spread by the Ukrainian partisan Denys Davydov:

"Nice argument Denys, but why don't you back it up with a source?"

"My source is that I saw it on a Youtube comment."

Of course the Ukrainians want NATO involved. And will try just about any trick in the book to suck in NATO. That’s a given. As for this incident, was it deliberately aimed at Poland or was it an oopsie the Ukrainians tried to turn to their advantage? Either is possible, as far as I can see.

You already got an answer to this earlier in this very thread. Russia didn't condemn its own military action, per the very wording of that same declaration.

Why are you still asking a question that you now KNOW has a false premise?

The missile blast in Poland also sparked concern at the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia. The leaders gathered there urged a thorough investigation into the incident.

The group of 20 leading economies ended their summit on Wednesday with a joint declaration saying that most members strongly condemned the war in Ukraine. They also warned that the conflict was making an already delicate world economy worse. The declaration was adopted UNANIMOUSLY [meaning that Russia also signed off on it.]

And that same declaration includes the very words that refute your characterization of it: "We reiterated our national positions as expressed in other fora...Most members strongly condemned the war in Ukraine...There were other views and different assessments of the situation and sanctions..."

Russia's national position in the UN referenda that were cited was against the the majority position that condemned them. It explicitly says that they reiterated their national positions from the same (wherein Russia, naturally, voted against condemning their own actions).

A declaration unanimously recognizing this — that everyone's national positions from said UN resolutions are unchanged — is tantamount to Russia condemning its own military actions?

Come on.

Yes, but do you seriously think an old S300 manufactured in the 1970s is in tippy top shape? Have you read the NATO reports on the state of the Ukrainian military from the past five years before this war started? Not exactly flattering. And can you guarantee the Ukrainian who fired it was sober?

The facts on the ground tell that they are more able than originally thought. That’s my mostly due to a mass of meat they are willing to sacrifice but the old Soviet stocks have their effect as well.

The old Soviet stuff doesn’t work as well as they’d like, or they would not be landing in their own cities after failed intercepts. Occam’s razor. A Ukrainian (drunk, desperate or stupid) tried to shoot down a Russian missile after it had already passed (hence the “wrong” direction) and the old piece of junk failed to self-destruct after missing its intended target and ended up in a Polish potato field.

The Polish president said it was manufactured in Russia in the 1970s. If correct, that would make it the earliest version of the S300 before its little problems were fixed in newer versions. It was a creaky old thing that could not hit low altitude targets.

If the Ukrainians truly wanted to spark off WWIII by firing into Poland, why a silly little potato field?

Ukrainian officials have said that the country’s military shot down more than 70 of the 100 rockets that Russia fired on Tuesday, Bloomberg reported.

Zelensky said Ukrainian investigators are traveling to the site in Poland, and Polish officials have said they will present their evidence to the Ukrainian government.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also said the blast appeared to come from a Ukrainian rocket, but he blamed Russia for starting the conflict originally and causing a situation like this to occur. “This is not Ukraine’s fault; Russia bears ultimate responsibility,” he said. “The whole incident is caused by Russia’s brutal war in Ukraine.”

The Bali G20 Summit Leaders’ Declaration document has also been uploaded and shared to the media. The 1,186-page document contains 52 points of the G20 leaders’ declaration in the last two-day meeting.

None of what you posted alters the fact that Russia has not condemned its own actions, by the very wording of the G20 declaration you keep citing.

That will not change, no matter how much you wish it were otherwise so.

“Davydov provides most up to date information often better than our actual “news outlets” here in the US. You are doing such important work keeping all of us up to date with the reality of what the aggressors are doing and how the brave women and men of Ukraine are standing up and defending not only your country, but are literally on the front lines defending the entire FREE WORLD.

My cousin just got back from serving a tour with the Ukrainian Armed Forces as a combat medic. I could not possibly be more proud of her and ever single Ukrainian soldier and citizen resisting the Russians.”
