Democrat Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) on Tuesday circulated a letter to round up support to permanently bar former President Donald Trump from reelection.

Accusing Trump of citing an insurrection, Cicilline cited the Fourteenth Amendment in the Constitution as the basis for which Trump should never again be allowed to govern.

“This language in our Constitution clearly intended to bar insurrectionists from holding high office in the United States,” the letter reads:

Well, he’s right up to a point.

IF Trump (or anyone) were to be CONVICTED of insurrection, by a legitimate court created under the Constitution to try Federal crimes, then, yes, XIV would prevent that person from being a Senator, Representative, or Elector, or from holding an office of trust or profit UNDER the United States.

Two things: The President, the Chief Magistrate, the Chief Executive are not mentioned in the relevant clause (although members of the Electoral College are), and it’s unclear whether or not this leader chosen by the State Legislatures holds an office UNDER the United States [government], as opposed to that government being under HIM.

And, of course, Trump has not been indicted, much less convicted, of insurrection.

I just made the mistake of going to the comment section on the MSN/Bing stories. Particularly the ones from the Independent.

The “journalists” tend to be Indian, from what I can see. Can’t determine too much about the drooling idjits in the comment section. They are truly vile.

“Why just not ban Republicans from running for President?”

That wouldn’t work. They need an occasional Bush or Ford to make the middle class think voting still works.

The only actual Republican the Republicans have nominated and that the bad guys have not just spit out was Reagan. Goldwater and Trump were unacceptable to the deep state and were spit out, quite successfully.

IMO, Trump can be President in a ranch house in Yellowstone...-—OR Branson, Mo-—OR high desert of N Nevada—OR -—————

He will STILL be a more magnificent President than all the DEMS EVER—all rolled together.

This language in our Constitution clearly intended to bar insurrectionists from holding high office.

If it was upheld they wouldn’t be any democrats in DC..

Well, Vice President Alexander Throttlebottom had to join a tour group to see the inside of the White House.

In the musical "Of Thee I Sing."

Congress can’t bar him. They had multiple chances during the impeachment trials and they failed.

Actually, he has been found not guilty of “insurrection” by the Senate, (which is the constitutional method of deciding this question for a president). He was impeached for “insurrection” after he was no longer president and found not guilty at trial. He can not be barred from being president based on that charge.

I used to live in RI. This guy’s a nasty swish from a wholly corrupt, Mafia-involved family. A vindictive little scumbag who once bitch-slapped his boy-toy, a Providence “news” anchor named Mario Hilario, in the face publicly. Ugh.

Rhode Island does not deserve representation in our Congress. Their day came and went 200+ years ago.
