Former President George W. Bush and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will hold a public conversation in Dallas on Tuesday amid questions among House Republicans about the importance of continuing to send money and aid to Ukraine for its fight against Russia.

Zeepers celebrate their partnership with George Bush and Li'l Z ❤️

Former presidents need to stay out of foreign policy unless deputized for such a mission by the sitting POTUS. I was infuriated when Nancy flew off to Syria to play kissy face with Assad and his wife and when Obama went speechifying in Egypt before he was elected. Dubya deputized his Papa and Bill Clinton to head up our tsunami relief efforts (which was really humanitarian rather than FP) and that was fine.

Again, former presidents should not dabble in present FP like this. Nor should Speakers of the House or unelected candidates. It’s not their purview. It is reserved to the current sitting president and his personal representatives. I’m really disappointed in Dubya for this. Yes, he was a disappointment in other ways, but I thought he at least respected protocol.

Ukraine is the frontline in the struggle for freedom and democracy. It's literally under attack as we speak

Ukraine is a one-party state.

No, two stalls and a glory hole between them. Right up Zelenskyy’s alley and not too complicated for W to figure out.

In this case, I’m confident that Dubya is coordinating with the staff of Jake Sullivan or Antony Blinken about what he’s doing.

Sadly, there are some people on freerepublic.com who don’t seem at all bothered by the murders, widescale destruction of property, and other carnage done by Russia in Ukraine in direct violation of the Budapest agreement that Russia had made in exchange for Ukraine giving up their nukes. But, there are some of us who do have a conscience and don’t think that mass murder is ok. I’ve said it before and will repeat this now. It would’ve been a lot cheaper (and still would be) to send in a sufficiently large force of peacekeepers from Vietnam, Indonesia, India, or other countries that both Ukraine/Russia could accept for all the disputed territories to ensure that violence could be prevented while diplomacy could be given a chance to peacefully resolve the disputes. The current “special military operation” hasn’t done anything to improve the security concerns between Ukraine and Russia in the long run. But, its sure done plenty to build more hate between the two sides for generations to come :(

“and other carnage done by Russia in Ukraine in direct violation of the Budapest agreement that Russia had made in exchange for Ukraine giving up their nukes”

The government that made that agreement ended with a violent US sponsored coup in 2014. And Ukraine never HAD any nukes. When the USSR ended, all Soviet nukes were possessed and operated by Moscow. Ukraine never had any nukes. And the Budapest was also badly violated by the post 2014 ethnic cleansing and artillery attacks on Russian speaking areas.
And whatever agreements, Russia is not going to accept a nazi government on it’s border, or a NATO takeover of the Sevastopol navy base they have had since the 1790s.

Now they are paying the price.
but nice fairy tale.

So, you think the current program of murder/violence is better than having peacekeepers from some neutral country in there to ensure non-violence?

Yeah, I’m well-aware of how important Sevastapol is to the Russians. I’m well-aware that the combination of Nikita Krushchev transfering Crimea to the Ukraine SSR and the dissolution of the USSR was quite humiliating to Russians. It would be like how Americans would feel if Florida was given to Cuba/Venezuela or Hawaii given to China. It’s why I think we must not ignore the concerns that Putin and other leaders in Russia have raised on this topic because they simply aren’t going to go away anytime soon within the next 100 years or longer.

How Putin has chosen to try to resolve this in 2022 is barbaric and inexecusible. History will always frown on him for this. He’ll be about as hated/vilified as Nero, Ghengis Khan, Ivan the Terrible, and Stalin. And Russians will continue to be hated greatly by the people in central Europe for centuries to come. Its indeed very sad.

Whatever... you’re too uninformed to really debate with. Zelensky was elected to stop the Uke war on the eastern areas who opted out of the coup. The galician nazi elements told him to his face, on video, he would be hanged if he tried to pull the Azov artillery back or implement Minsk 2.

The murder violence was going on for a solid 8 years of nazi artillery shelling the Donbass. Now that it is being stopped by force, you start shrieking for peacekeepers.

The Elon Musk solution was best.

A UN supervised election in the Donbass. If they vote to leave, Ukraine lets them go. If they vote to stay, Russia leaves. Crimea stays Russian and Ukes do not interfere with the water supply. Ukraine goes neutral and no NATO.

Elon nailed it. But we all saw Ukraine freak out at the idea of a neutral election they had to live with.
And DC doesn’t want to lose it’s ATM laundering game.
