Trump ally Marjorie Taylor Greene: DeSantis should stay put as governor
The Hill ^ | 11/11/2022 | Jared Gans

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), a close ally of former President Trump, says Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) should stay on as governor amid rumors that he could challenge Trump for the GOP nomination in 2024.

Greene did not directly mention DeSantis’s potential interest in a 2024 run in a Twitter thread on Friday but said that losing a “strong Republican governor” early because political consultants are urging them to run for president hurts the country because it leaves their states weak and vulnerable to poor leadership or Democratic control.

There are a number of things that should happen, and each of the players have their own role to play.

1. President Trump needs to stop his public meltdown. He is lashing out across the board, distracting from the handful of races still in contest, especially the very important Georgia senate race. I am unaware of any slight by Glenn Youngkin that caused the latest attack from Trump against the Virginia governor.

2. Ron DeSantis has, to my understanding previously stated he will serve his full term in Florida. If this is correct, he should be pointing to that promise. He can use the next four years to stage himself for the 2028 election - by building his national brand. If Trump elects not to run, or if Trump continues his current self-immolation, DeSantis can still jump in.

3. Kari Lake is hitting all the right notes, IMHO. She is focusing on winning her race and becoming the governor of Arizona. She needs to show over the next four years how she will govern - hopefully within the boundaries she has erected in her campaign. She may well become President some day, but right now she is a minor league prospect getting a chance to play at the next higher level, to use a baseball analogy.

4. We, the MAGA base, need to stop and think before we reflexively support or oppose politicians. The media is the enemy of the truth. That should be a well understood axiom. Allow the politicians - and Trump after four years in the white house is also a politician now - time to figure out how to how to build their coalitions and build their defenses.

5. The GOPe needs to stop trying to separate the MAGA base from the MAGA leader(s). There was a deliberate strategy in 2022 to support the establishment and oppose the MAGA candidates from the GOPe “leadership”. This item is more of a wish than a demand - they did not accumulate their power listening to their constituents.

6. The GOP, both the MAGA base and the GOPe, need to embrace LEGAL tactics to maximize the number of ballots that are brough in. Where ballot harvesting is legal, we need to harvest ballots (with a clothes pin on our noses, if necessary). When the democrats break the law, we need to sue and even pursue charges as possible - with a white-hot righteous anger to prevent further erosion of personal freedoms and social liberty. Walk the legal line - don’t break the law, but don’t stray far from the line, either.

7. Last, but not least, conservatives like us need to stop attacking each other, both at the politician level and at the plebeian base voter level. Different ideas are just different ideas - they are not a personal attack. Get over your (and my) ego. Consider the pros and cons, argue (debate) vociferously for your point of view. But stop attacking anyone who has a different opinion. Attack the opinion - fine! Attack the person - you belittle yourself.

Trump wouldn’t have been attacking DeSantis in the days leading up to the election if he wasn’t scared like a little girl.

At least part of this is DeSantis’s fault because he won’t come clean!

He just won re-election as governor of FL. He probably hasn't even decided if he's going to run for POTUS yet. Why does he need to work on Trump's timetable? Why does Youngkin?

Primary voters will decide who the next GOP nominee is, in 2024. Trump wants to decide by himself in 2022.

Donald J Trump appointed Bill Barr, Christopher Wray, endorsed Oz and McCarthy, and still backs the jab. But that’s all ok.

Re: He’s already said he won’t run if Trump announces.

I read that myself somewhere, but I cannot remember where. If true, then this so-called “rivalry” between Trump and DeSantis is nothing but libtard B.S.

DeSantis is just another backstabbing SOB rino. The main problem is that Trump is running as a republican and the party is a fake construct of the political establishment. It’s just meant to be used as a tool to control the public, make them believe that they have some say in what happens. The republican party(Not the voters the party) does not want Trump in it. So they go after him every chance they get.

Or is it a warning shot to DeSantis not to fall in with the wrong crowd?

A RINO??

The guy who took on Disney, fought back against the trans agenda in schools, shipped immigrants from FL to Martha’s Vineyard? Who has had record breaking tax cuts??

A “RINO”??

What’s your proof??

This all goes away if DeSantis comes out publicly and states he will not be running in 2024 if President Trump decides or announces he is running in 2024.

He'd look like a beta who is scared of Trump if he said that. DeSantis will make a decision and announcement regarding a potential candidacy in 2024 when it makes sense for him. Exact same thing Trump will do.

If Trump doesn't like that, he can keep making up nicknames and attacking DeSantis from now until then. I don't think DeSantis would mind.

I wouldn’t got for that ‘rat over my dead body. I’m just really do with Trump attacking DeSantis and Youngkin. He is disloyal to other conservatives and is dividing the party because of his ego.

Oh, I forgot to mention...

He took on Fauci and the COVID cultists and opened up his state shourtly after closing it, all while Trump kept Fauci and Birx employed and pushing for dangerous and untested vaccines.

So there are no republicans in the Florida legislature? He did it all by himself?

I like Arron, but he’s not ready and those who are pushing this are asking for trouble.

DeSantis opened his state like many other governors did. I live in Tennessee and we were open. DeSantis and Trump were the same on the vaccine. No mandates. Trump was never for mandating them. That came much later under Biden. Trump was encouraging state governors to open up as early June of 2020. DeSantis has done nothing out of the ordinary. Why is the rino wing of the republican party backing him? It’s a good question I think. If he is preparing to carry the MAGA torch why isn’t he being crippled by FBI raids and endless phony investigations like Trump? The easy answer is it’s because he’s their boy.

Good post, well-explained.

I collect a list of very fine detailed minds that I try to follow when there’s time.

Here’s a new one I just learned about this morning on Bannon. His name is Russ Vought:

Your thinking reminded me of his. You should check him out.

You’re upsetting the OP’s narrative that DeSantis is a deep state RINO.
