Do you think McConnell and Ryan are forcing Trump to say these stupid and self-damaging comments?
Trump is playing a very dangerous and stupid game. It worked for him in 2016 when he and Ted Cruz were friendly competitors. But then Trump turned nasty and vicious and attacked Ted Cruz and his family.
While that that might’ve worked in 2016, it’s not going to work now. Ron DeSantis is no Ted Cruz.

DeSantis and Trump are both running in 2024, obviously. I don’t see why Trump couldn’t keep his powder dry until the race was on officially. Doing this now just makes him look petty and opens him up to attacks from left, right and center. If that’s what he wants it’s a mistake. Trump fatigue is real and he’s just fueling it here.
Actually, a political Pac associated with Cruz cut an ad that used old nudes of Melania and suggested she was a prostitute. Trump retaliated and that was the beginning of the end of the Trump/\Cruz friendship. Trump never attacked Ted’s whole family, but made disparaging remarks about his wife. As usual, someone else attacked Trump, but the only thing the media ever focused on was Trump’s reaction.
Same thing when Trump called McCain a loser. No one mentions that McCain called Trump and his supporters loons the day before.
