Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will miss Friday's national Remembrance Day ceremony in Ottawa to attend a summit in Cambodia involving countries from across Southeast Asia.
Senior officials revealed the prime minister's planned absence during a not-for-attribution background briefing, saying Trudeau will leave late Thursday for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting in Phnom Penh.
The ASEAN summit, which is scheduled to start on Saturday, is the first of four international meetings that Trudeau will attend over 10 days. He will also attend the G20 in Indonesia, the APEC meeting in Thailand and a Francophonie summit in Tunisia.
Officials said the prime minister instead met with serving military personnel and veterans in New Brunswick earlier this week, where he also paid his respects to those who fell in service to Canada.
Trudeau was also absent for the national Remembrance Day ceremony in 2018 because he was attending an international gathering of world leaders in France marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
A spokeswoman for the Royal Canadian Legion, which organizes and runs the national ceremony every year, said the prime minister and other key government representatives are always invited to attend.
"We are disappointed that he will not be present this year," Nujma Bond said. "We do understand that, on occasion, national matters may arise that prevent him from attending."

Instead, his attendance at an ASEAN 'summit' is much more pressing! ASEAN stands for 'Association of Southeast Asian Nations'. Unless I slept through all my geography classes in school, and particularly missed the lessons on Canadian geography, Canaduh occupies much of the Northern part of North America, NOT the south-eastern part of Asia, but, of course, I could be wrong.
Prime Mistake (aka 'Emperor', in his miniscule mind) True-dolt, never misses a chance, ANY chance, to jump on the gubmint Airbus A310-300, along with his entourage of dozens, and fly to various world destinations. On his recent 'singing holiday' to HM Queen Elizabeth II's funeral, he stayed at a hotel that cost Canadian tax payers $6,000 A NIGHT! God knows how much WE, the TAXPAYERS paid to feed and house his adoring entourage, while visiting the UK for HM QE2's funeral! Nothing like a tax payer paid 'junket' (or four) to relieve the pressures of issuing orders to a compliant Liberal cabinet and NDP hangers on, supported by a sycophantic MSM!
To add insult to injury, while creating more and more carbon 'pollution', he and his gubmint lecture the general populace to 'cut carbon emissions' by increasing the carbon tax, doing all he can to kill Alberta's economy, and banning the sale of new 'fossil fuel' powered cars by 2035.
When Germany asked Canaduh to sell it LNG, to get through its current crisis, True-dolt, being a 'dependable ally', refused to sell NG, because of 'carbon emissions'.
Recently, it emerged that the True-dolt family spent $55K on food last year. I don't care a whit, what his family spends on food! What I DO care about is, WHY DID THE TAXPAYERS PAY FOR IT?

I hope the Cambodians make Trudeau eat snake raw in public.Cobra will do. At the end they drink Cobra blood laced with poison. That would bemore in keeping for what he has done to Canada, and independent truckers ( deisel fuel prices ) , most of whom supported the Freedom Convoy.

I am SO looking forward to the next ‘First Ministers Conference’, where the Premiers of all Provinces meet with the Prime Mistake and GouvFedCan True-dolt, the ‘feminist’, has a problem with strong willed women, cursing them out, and such. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, is a well spoken, strong women. When they meet, I believe he will lose his cool and blow up, in public, on national TV. One can hope!
Let’s just call all these summits, conferences, & conventions what they truly are: a vacation at the taxpayers expense.
