Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), who chairs the Senate’s Energy and Natural Resources Committee, has come out in opposition to President Biden’s renomination of an interstate energy regulator.
Manchin spokesperson Sam Runyon said via email that the senator is “not comfortable holding a hearing” on the confirmation of Richard Glick for another term on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Runyon’s brief email did not elaborate on Manchin’s reasoning.
Glick’s term on the energy commission expired over the summer, but he’s allowed to serve until the end of the year.
Manchin’s position, which was first reported by Bloomberg Law, comes amid both new tensions on energy issues between Manchin and Biden as well as opposition from Manchin to a high-profile climate action by FERC.

Let the bidding begin.
Haha! It reminds me of the honest judge that had the attorney for plaintiff visit him 5 minutes before starting a. Trial. The lawyer gave the judge $10,000 in cash and asked for the judge to rule in his favor.
The lawyer went to the courtroom, shook the hand of the defense counsel, and sat down. Then the judge took the bench.
The judge announced, “I am a very fair man. But, Mr. Defense attorney, today before we began, the counsel for plaintiff came to my office and gave me $10,000. You need to know about that because I am a fair man. To show my fairness, I’ll give you the opportunity to match or exceed the $10,000. What say you?”
Always the case with Manchin! Sticks his hands out and says PAY ME!
He is against it until the price is right. Then he will roll over or bend over, which is the more appropriate.
As much as Manchin is a slimeball, the Turtle could at least try to get this dude to switch parties. If Laxalt can pull out his win, then we are at 50. Manchin got backstabbed on the Climate Change Bill (aka Inflation Reduction Act). What better way for him to repay the Dems for that than to switch parties. Being the one person that tips the balance, even before GA. I would pull his popularity back up in WV.
“It would”, not “I would”
If shitbird Manchin becomes a Repugnican, I’m voting for whatever sacrificial lamb the Constitution Party offers up.
No joke.
If Manchin were as pissed as he claims to be, and he should be after getting bent over by his fellow dimocrats, if he really wanted revenge he could always register as Republican. But they’d probably issue a fatwa and have him martyred.
Hope he waits till all returns are in and runoff election in Georgia. Than flip.
Me too, BUT he won’t do it. He’s had too many opportunities. He’s like a battered wife that won’t turn in her husband but keep showing up at the PTA meeting wearing sunglasses.
SAY GOODBYE TO YOUR SEAT IN 24 JOE!
Eff Manchin. He’s a liar and traitor.
He’s a whore. He just has a higher price than the other Rats.
Manchin is not like a battered wife. Mansion is coddled and sweet talked by both sides. This is how he stays relevant and important.
Actually think he would be more conservative than Romney and a couple of others, if he actually switched.
Bingo.
I see nothing in Manchin’s record to suggest that he would be more conservative than any currently seated Republican senator. I think he’s very happy being Schumer’s well-paid catamite.
