I’d drink to that but the house is dry after last night.

Marijuana desensitizes the gag reflex, allowing for more alcohol consumption. Alcohol also calms the edgy, nervous beginning of a marijuana high and soothes the paranoia. Many meth addicts (who smoked pot first) also get drunk enough to pass out after getting paranoid on meth.

Nearly 108,000 drug overdose deaths in 2021. Driving is really fun these days. I’m going out to install new cameras in a car.

I remember reading one of those (dead white author) American classics. A man had whished for a beer mug that would never empty, and he died of alcoholism. When I’m shopping on a payday, I see workmen walking out of the store with one, two or even more cases of beer. Having known a few of these men I’m certain most of them will polish off the whole thing in a short time. The fact that beer is so incredibly cheap allows the average guy to buy what amounts to an endless supply. Part of this is a reflection of our incredible wealth in comparison to humans of the distant past who had to struggle to find enough calories to survive. The same is true of the incredibly cheap foods. I’ve seen people weighing three hundred or more pounds with a sign reading, “Will work for food.” The excessive drinking, eating, smoking and drugs that cause excessive deaths are all symptomatic of a deeper problem which is in the mind and possibly the genetics of the people who find this excess irresistible. I have no answer, but I daily see people slowly (or sometimes faster) committing suicide.

Subject of the thread title needs better context.

Last words during a alcohol related death might be: “Here, hold my beer and watch this”.

But unlike fentanyl, or even tobacco now, alcohol use is still socially acceptable ... even encouraged

that makes it even harder to resist and then stop

Strange timing for an article about alcohol. Traditionally, large amounts of alcohol makes communism somewhat tolerable.

This has got to be ‘fake news’ because so many have told us that all these deaths were caused by the vaccines.

During the “lockdown” we were encouraged to drink alcohol. Liquor stores remained open but many other types of businesses were forced to close.

What a load of garbage. This is one of those purpose driven "studies" designed to validate what the author wants to prove. Notice how it lumps alcohol in with homicide as if it's alcohol causing the death. Most murders are committed by young inner city black men. That group also tends to drink a lot, there's a reason there are liquor stores all over the place in the ghetto. They're not committing murder because they drink a lot, they're committing murder because they're thugs. Thugs tend to drink a lot also, it goes with the territory. You could just as easily claim wearing Nike shoes causes death because 9 out of 10 murderers are wearing them. Correlation doesn't equal causation.

More garbage agenda driven "research" masquerading as science.

Drunk decides to play it safe and get a cab. The cab gets into an accident and someone dies.

The death is marked down as "alcohol related".

I quit two years ago. At 62, I’ve started a new business, gotten healthy by exercising, and am happier than ever. I always say alcohol doesn’t do anything for you, just to you.

“alcohol is killing Americans during their prime working years”

Strange, I always thought my prime working years caused me to drink alcohol.

Seriously though, never drank daily but when I was young I would drink too much at a time. As hangovers got worse I new I had to cut way back or turn pro. My friends who turned pro don’t look so good. I feel great.
