House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) announced a bid to become the next House majority leader on Wednesday as the GOP appears likely to win a narrow majority in the lower chamber.
“The American people deserve a House of Representatives that can move the agenda that was promised to them on the campaign trail,” Scalise said in a letter addressed to his GOP colleagues in the House.

I’d prefer Chip Roy (TX)
Wow. Scalise is careful so he must see a reasonable path to achieve this to step out and announce it.
A good sign on a day where we all feel like our college football team squeeked out a “win” when we expected a blowout.
A “W” is still a “W”
Yep, this rumor was mentioned this morning on FOX and Friend’s, guess they were right. We definitely need a leadership shake-up, the Senate too.
Good. Trump needs to change his endorsement from McCarthy STAT.
Yes, it is.
However, I think all of us wanted a bit more.
At the end of the day we would have all taken this 2 years ago if offered.
How about Jim Jordan?
Jordan has no interest in it. He is asked in almost every interview by conservative media and he has remained supportive of McCarthy.
There is a difference between majority leader and speaker of the house.
Scalise is deep state. Don’t want him.
Has he done anything to help MAGA? Has he tried to help the January 6 POWs? Like all the other RINOs — going along to get along.
If the GOP wins the House, then Kevin McCarthy will move from the House Minority Leader position to Speaker of the House. The House Majority Leader position — currently held by Democrat Steny Hoyer — would then have to be filled by a Republican.
This can be confusing. Speaker of the House and House Majority Leader are different posts.
Anyone other than McCarthy, or any other Republican who won't allow shared power with the Democrats, will be acceptable to me. Winning isn't always a win with some Congressional Republicans. Too many, especially in the Senate are willing to split the power with Democrats.
Thank you for the clarification. I was so excited I obviously conflated the two.
However, I think my original statement is still a good one:
Trump needs to change his endorsement from McCarthy STAT.
Is Trump even relevant at this point? Who does DeSantis back? That’s what I want to know
correct....he’d be the current day Heny Stoyer. I believe the scuttlebutt was about a challenge to McCarthy which it appears will not happen.
It wouldn’t be a good move. I don’t think Kevin will make a bad speaker (although I cringe every time I hear him speak) because he’s not an easy target and Jim Jordan backs him. Kevin is a great fund raiser and that’s a primary function of his position.
No that because over half the job of speaker is fund raising.
How about Tulsi? That’s assuming she wants to join the GOP. After all, I don’t blame her for ditching the demonrat plantation.
