Google... Marine gas oil (bunker fuel or bunker oil) is any type of diesel which is used in seagoing vessels.

“ using low-grade products such as heavy fuel oil (HFO) causes more pollution due to its composition. Thus, most ships are not allowed to enter emission control areas (ECA’s) unless they change over to fuels with low sulfur content like MDO and MGO.”

https://maritimepage.com/what-are-mgo-and-mdo-fuels-marine-fuels-explained/

know how much MGO a large ship burns entering and leaving ports? That’s where the diesel went!

Shows what I know. Thanks. The caption to the photo reads “Ingrid Brown tops off her tanks with 92 gallons of diesel at a truck stop in Yuma, Arizona. She’s headed east with a load of produce.”

I figured she had a total fuel capacity of 92 gallons and figured $7/gal.

Producers will have no choice in the matter when the end consumers refuse to buy anything because they just have no money. No orders or demand... No need for delivery.

The consumers will indeed hit a breaking point where the “delivered price” is completely unaffordable. They are not going to pay $10 per apple.

I wanted a diesel, great mpg. Hubby was not convinced. I would like a comfy sedan in a diesel 6 speed. I know that’s as common as a leprechaun wit a pot of gold.

The true perspective in numbers is hard to grasp. I see very little of this reality actually being shared right now. I was running a 53 truck terminal during the Obama prices.

It was actually a wise investment for us to go through all the cost and trouble to install our own fuel depot and get our own tanker. Just the $1 a gallon difference being able to buy directly from the pipeline rack paid for it quick.

It really is hard to fathom when the prices get that high how much money truly is changing hands. Each truckload was costing us $66,000 and we burnt two tanker loads every 24 hours.

So our fuel bill every 24 hours was 130,000 dollars. It really was much crazier than most would ever think. And we were getting a DEAL on fuel.

“are they still grossing 8k-10k per week?”

No, Gross is not an indicator and cannot be used. An owner operator after truck payments, other maintenance, insurance, fuel, and regulatory fees are only bringing home roughly $18 an hour, less when the fuel moves above $5 a gallon.

Why do it? Why do all that work and stress for $15 an hour? They do not make as much as people think they do.

Same with electric power. I started up power plants for five years early in my career and complexity, scale, and cost of designing, manufacturing, erecting, running and maintaining a power plant is staggering. That we could do that with such high reliability and deliver power. People have no idea about the numbers involved in producing power.

Wow, you dont get it.

Let's say a truck use 300 gallon of fuel to deliver 400 bushels of apples. Pre pandemic this used to cost around $1,000 for fuel. Diveded by the number of bushels = $2.50/bushel for fuel cost. Not per apple - but per bushel.

Ok scenario 2 let's DOUBLE fuel costs to $2,000. So how much per bushel does fuel cost? 2000/400 = $5/bushel. Not per apple - per bushel. That is not a huge difference in price per apple. There are 125 apples in a bushel. So per apple it works out to 4 cents per apple.

Your $10.00 per apple is ridiculous BS.

Yes, it is strange how exchanging those type of dollar amounts daily can “become normal”. It can mess up your whole perspective of what “small change” is. lol

We hauled produce, and some loads like strawberries were worth a half million dollars. One load... Yet even with these amounts the difference of one dollar per gallon can make or break a whole company after costs of doing business and other overhead.

Running a business and setting prices during high inflation is a very difficult thing to do.

I ate at a restaurant this past summer where the prices on the menus were little stickers pasted over the earlier prices. I hadn’t seen that since 1980 and was hoping I’d never see it again.

It sure is... What we have to worry about this time around is that sign on the door... “Sorry for the inconvenience, Due to cost and availability of product we are closed”.

Large fishing vessel diesel tanks can be in the thousands of gallons - depending on the size. Even small ones take hundreds of gallons.
