Legislation meant to control the migration crisis at the US-Mexico border will be first on the agenda if Republicans win back the House of Representatives this week, GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy said Monday.
“The first thing you’ll see is a bill to control the border first,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) told CNN in an interview. “You’ve got to get control over the border. You’ve had almost 2 million people just this year alone coming across.”
President Biden has been criticized for rolling back many of the hardline immigration and border policies of former President Donald Trump upon taking office in January 2021.
Those moves, critics say, triggered a run on the frontier that culminated in more than 2 million arrests of illegal border-crossers in the 12 months ending Sept. 30, according to figures from US Customs and Border Protection.

Because that milquetoast Paul Ryan was the Speaker?
My pessimistic translation: “We’ll talk about doing something, the dems will call us racists, and we’ll back down.”
I guess McCarthy is expexting a veto-proof majority in both chambers. He’s either an optimist or delusional.
Border and Oil production...
Oil production is difficult because investors hate gambling on ever changing policies.
They had two years of Republican control of the House and the Senate to fund Trump's wall, but failed to do so.
What makes you think I don't know you'll snatch the football yet again, Lucy?
He’s a liar. This is a lie.
We’ll see what they do, there are so many things on the list.
I’d say that given the border is largely a federal thing, that’s one thing to get done immediately. I’d say 2nd would be to get us energy independent again, leases, incentives for new refineries, etc. Long term stuff the industry can make plans on.
Inflation - stop giving away money, reverse the college loan giveaway and other welfare items. Stop spending money we don’t really have.
+1
How about deporting about 30 million and cleaning up the welfare roles?
They also had control of the House when Bush was President. Why didn’t they do something then?
Sad to say, but the Biden cabal is standing by to veto anything constructive that comes out of a moderately-conservative legislature.
Unfortunately, it’s starting to look like DeSantis should be included in this photograph.
They could also starve whatever govt agency is handling loan amnesty for college kids.
They are frauds that’s why. They should pass the toughest border security rules and laws imaginable but what they’ll do is negotiate among themselves to get something totally useless. I want them to win the house so we’ll just see what happens.
McCarthy will do or say anything to avoid going after the Biden corruption.
The Deplorables want a Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement bill, missing since 1986 ONE TIME amnesty. Since that amnesty was granted already, a second amnesty is off the table. What remains is the enforcement the Democrats have disallowed since then.
The List of Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, missing since 1986 goes like this -
1) southern barrier;
2) require eVerify to hire;
3) end all chain migration;
4) birthright per Minor v. Happersett (plural parents);
5) end work visas;
6) 40-year moratorium on all new applications for citizenship (to allow workplace automation effects on downsizing population);
7) Set up an illegal aliens’ victim restitution fund from tax on remittances. Use tax on remittances to replenish Social Security account.
Enactment of these provisions will motivate illegal aliens to SELF-deport, and remove colonizadors from our welfare rolls.
We have got to seriously wein people off the government freebies.
Not just welfare..although,I thought workfare was a good thing.
And get people working and producing. Or, we’ll be trapped in this inflation/recession for the next 5+ years.
“The first thing you’ll see is a bill to control the border first,”
