Exactly. Accurate is not a subjective term.

Accurate is accurate to everyone.

There is very little which is "accurate" to everyone.

Science has its limits. A great deal of what is "known" is debatable.

Allowing the debate is what is best for us to get a closer approximation of reality.

Examples:

Was 911 an inside job? Many believe the planes themself could not bring down the towers.

Is homosexuality a learned behavior or genetically intrinsic?

Are there statistical racial differences in intelligence?

Does more gun ownership increase or decrease murder or suicide rates?

Is a .45 ACP a better "stopper" than a .357 magnum?

Did anyone benefit from slavery? Were those benefits passed on to future generations?

Is more CO2 in the atmosphere good or bad or with little effect?

One of my favorite sagas regarding "accuracy" and "settled science" is ulcers.

In 1981 Barry Marshall began working with Robin Warren, the Royal Perth Hospital pathologist who, two years earlier, discovered the gut could be overrun by hardy, corkscrew-shaped bacteria called Helicobacter pylori. Biopsying ulcer patients and culturing the organisms in the lab, Marshall traced not just ulcers but also stomach cancer to this gut infection. The cure, he realized, was readily available: antibiotics. But mainstream gastroenterologists were dismissive, holding on to the old idea that ulcers were caused by stress.

Unable to make his case in studies with lab mice (because H. pylori affects only primates) and prohibited from experimenting on people, Marshall... ran an experiment on ...himself. He took some H. pylori from the gut of an ailing patient, stirred it into a broth, and drank it....Back in the lab, he biopsied his own gut, culturing H. pylori and proving unequivocally that bacteria were the underlying cause of ulcers.

For their work on H. pylori, Marshall and Warren shared a 2005 Nobel Prize. Today the standard of care for an ulcer is treatment with an antibiotic.

I truly believe that a great amount of the hysteria around Trump, and the attendant wake regarding the truth, accuracy, the pandemic and "antivaxxers," is a leftist dogma that THEY will NOT be the ones who stand idly by as Hitler2 et al are in the world.

For decades after WWII, many people asked themselves "what would *I* have done in Berlin in 1939 to stop Hitler?" Trump comes along, and these nuts whip themselves into a frenzy and make Trump out to be Hitler2.

They fancy themselves as the Resistance, and conclude that the answer to the Berlin 1939 question, is "whatever it takes."

This is why you never get a coherent answer from Leftists about the 2020 fraud...because to them, it was a necessary "whatever it takes" measure to stop Hitler2.

The same is true for the pandemic and ANYONE who questioned the efficacy of the shots - all the slandering and marginalization of "antivaxxers" was a necessary "whatever it takes" measure because... well...the left just KNEW they were right and the people questioning that the shots were the ONLY way to fight the virus were part of Hitler2. However, saying that out loud will get them arrested or institutionalized (or tenure at Harvard).

A few weeks ago, there was a thread covering glee over at DU around an obituary with someone in a MAGA hat. Truly reprehensible DU glee was discussed. To my point, one DU poster wrote

A MAGA hat is no different than a swastika these days.

This is where the majority of the left is regarding all of this. They're Resisting and history will pat them on the head for not being like the citizens of 1939 Berlin.

Except, that they're wrong. Bigly. The fact that they've ingested their rantings as dogma is ghastly.

However, if you want a silver lining, even a few posters at DU saw the attendant illegitimacy AND darkness. As one sane DU person wrote,

Anyone with a glancing familiarity with history knows that dehumanizing a stranger you consider your enemy because of their politics usually doesn't end with just that. It's a very dark path.
