Was walking along the bank of the St. Marys River in Ft. Clinch State Park, Florida, adjacent to Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, Georgia, when we noticed a group of smaller navy boats chugging our way from the north. When the crowd got closer, we realized it was a convoy escorting one of the behemoth nuclear submarines out to sea. Quite a thrill to be so close to something so powerful...and large. It was an impressive site. We later learned it was the USS Tennessee, an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine.
I really doubt we’re sending a sub to the Black Sea for that reason alone.
**********
the article was absurd speculation.
“nor should they ... missiles from American subs can reach Russia just fine from the Mediterranean, there’s no need to go into that enclosed trap known as the “Black Sea””
At least you agree that the media is LYING, which is progress.
Think iceberg.
Thank you. One knew it had to be the Soviet/Russian boats.
News at eleven.
I asked this on another thread and received no answers, so, I’ll try again here:
What’s Turkey’s naval capacity in the Black Sea vs. Russia’s (or anybody else, for that matter)?
This given Russia’s losses so far.
Turkey seems extremely keen to keep those grain shipments going. I suspect they are very worried about further food price inflation & possible unrest.
Turkey is concerned because hungry Africans will walk to the food if they have to.
Turkey is also concerned because they are one of few countries that had a currency exchange agreement. They stand to make a ton of hard currency by sending that grain through their ports.
Turkey does very little for anyone other than Turkey.
One would also think that the Sub Brass would not telegraph the route/destination of a boomer to the whole world.
And there’s absolutely no reason to send a boomer into a sea with only a narrow channel (Bosporus) for ingress and egress. Her missiles have a fairly substantial range. A fast attack I could see, but not a boomer.
“Turkey does very little for anyone other than Turkey.”
100% truth there
Turkey is not happy with Russia and Iran right now. Some have posited that a war between Iran and Turkey could break out with all that is going on in Syria. I’m not sure that would happen, but they are not to be trifled with.
Here’s another point that could play into a future war. Both Russia and Iran are in massive demographic spirals - Iran possibly has the worst population drop in history right now. Turkey still has a good level population going for the foreseeable future.
Usually, nations with demographic problems start wars sooner.
If Turkey attacked Bulgaria from the rear, Would Greece help?
Yeah, still smaller than a Russian Typhoon class.
