And how many decades do you think that statue would be prominently displayed in Seattle if it were Robert E Lee or Trump?
I would wager they wouldn’t last a week before being completely destroyed with the city’s blessing

Yup, Russia is still quite fond of its communist heritage. The USSR was a superpower. They've conquered Eastern Europe. Right now Russia is a regional power with thousands of nuclear missiles. A shell of its former shelf. The USSR had the population of 286 million people in 1989. Right now Russia is around 145 million and dropping.

The Ukrainians toppled a traitor who went back on his explicit promises to have Ukraine sign agreements with the EU, and instead tried to sell the country out to his Russian patrons. The people didn't want to be under the boot of the Russians again, their elected Parliament backed them, and they got rid of the traitor.
Good for them.

Maybe we can just give the Russians Portland, they leave Ukraine, and we all call it quits.
To: Cronos
Notice how the Pu Mao here try to equate the statue you described, privately purchased and privately displayed, with the Russian government putting up a statue for political reasons to honor the USSR.

Putin and his followers know that Soviet Communism did tremendous harm to Russia, but they like and admire Lenin and Stalin as brutal and effective strongmen — and especially so for their genocidal control over Ukrainians and other non-Russian minorities. Restoring a statue of Lenin to a prominent public space in Ukraine is both an expression of Russia's control and a humiliation to the locals, like erecting a statute of a Klansman in Harlem would be.

“The USSR was a superpower. They've conquered Eastern Europe.”
They conquered squat. They moved into an Eastern Europe that had been devastated by Germany in WWII, and occupied it and never left, installing its tyranny and hegemony over a region that had been destroyed by someone else.
“Right now Russia is a regional power with thousands of nuclear missiles.”
Its ONLY power is its nuclear arsenal. Unused, Russia is a just a strutting bully full of braggadocio, but lacking the power to back up its bluster except against such vaunted military juggernauts as Georgia.

It would be like if Germany was ruled by a twisted autocrat, invaded part of Poland again and put up a Hitler statue.

But who destroyed the Nazis? It was the Soviets. The Soviets had to prevail at the Battle of Stalingrad before they could "conquer" Eastern Europe. Even though the territory was already destroyed and occupied by the Nazis, the Soviets still deserved the credit so they built that empire.

It's no better or worse than statues of Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera in Ukraine. There more 150 monuments or streets named Bandera.
But, only a fool would argue that country with 13% flat tax rate and is spending $2.5 billion a year building churches in communist.
But, Russian Derangement Syndrome turns one's mind to mush.
