Natalia Chorna had warned her more outspoken twin sister to be careful after Russian forces occupied their home town of Skadovsk near Kherson, southern Ukraine, in February. But Tetyana Mudryenko found it hard to keep her anger about the war to herself.
Last month, Mudryenko paid the ultimate penalty for proclaiming Skadovsk Ukrainian territory. According to several witnesses, she was dragged into the street by the self-appointed pro-Moscow authorities and hanged in a public execution.
“In occupied Skadovsk, you can’t have your own opinion,” said Chorna, 56.
As Ukraine pursues its counteroffensive in Kherson and Russia forcibly relocates tens of thousands of people, those living in the southern region have said the occupying authorities are terrorising anyone who defies them.
Residents of Skadovsk, a Black Sea port of some 15,000 inhabitants, told the Financial Times that people were being jailed and having their possessions confiscated for speaking out against their Russian occupiers.
Russian soldiers are also seizing the homes of Ukrainians who had moved to territory controlled by Kyiv, or who have been deported to Russia or occupied Crimea.

Oh that can’t be. Don’t you know Putin is a good Christian man saving the world
I’ve read it on FR many times
Russians are brutal monsters
behavior like this is why nobody wants to be part of Russia
Good morning, I see you made it in early.
I feel about the Russian army about the same as I feel about Biden. I can’t stand either of them.
Its amazing how some Putinoid FReepers are defending organized russian atrocities.
How Russians Ran a 'Cleansing' Operation in Bucha
What happened that day in Bucha was what Russian soldiers on intercepted phone conversations called “zachistka” — cleansing. The Russians hunted people on lists prepared by their intelligence services and went door to door to identify potential threats. Those who didn’t pass this filtration, including volunteer fighters and civilians suspected of assisting Ukrainian troops, were tortured and executed, surveillance video, audio intercepts and interviews show.
The Associated Press and the PBS series “Frontline” obtained surveillance camera footage from Bucha that shows, for the first time, what a cleansing operation in Ukraine looks like. This was organized brutality that would be repeated at scale in Russian-occupied territories across Ukraine — a strategy to neutralize resistance and terrorize locals into submission that Russian troops have used in past conflicts, notably Chechnya.
Police ended up recovering nearly 40 bodies along Yablunska street alone. Prosecutors have identified 12 around 144 Yablunska; AP reporters documented a 13th body in the stairwell of one of the buildings in the complex, in photos and videos taken on April 3.
This story is part of an AP/FRONTLINE investigation that includes the War Crimes Watch Ukraine interactive experience and the documentary “ Putin’s Attack on Ukraine: Documenting War Crimes,” on PBS. The AP and “Frontline” reviewed hundreds of hours of video from surveillance cameras in Bucha and vetted audio recordings of phone calls by Russian soldiers.

Putin? He be a good, strong Christian managawd - he be moral, so moral - so moral he has to spread his moralitay to them thar Ukies.
No! Not the babies! Are the puppies and kittens safe?
I’m so weary of the clear bs. Anyone with a half working brain cell should of figured this out by now.
that’s appalling
It even got so bad they were accusing Germans of eating Belgian babies. Amazing and incredulous but once war hysteria sets in many will believe anything if it reinforces their perceptions of a hated enemy.
“ It is true that many of the more sensational stories of German “outrages” perpetrated in Belgium during the course of the invasion and ensuing occupation are very hard to believe, much less corroborate. German soldiers eating Belgian babies; German soldiers hanging Belgian nuns between church bells and ringing them to death; German soldiers crucifying dozens of farmers by the roadside; and so on — these are stories that are familiar to us through the fact of them having now become standard examples of why “propaganda” is not to be trusted.”

Its moronic to argue, no atrocities committed are to be acknowledged because during WW1 false propaganda was used.
Its appalling because at first the executions by russians at Bucha were thought to be perpetrated by drunk, out of control soldiers. Now it appears to be an organized cleansing of the town which russians called “zachistka”.
But during the Holodomor Stalin starved more than a million Ukrainians to the point where cannibalism of children was documented.
When did I say none were committed?
You are putting words on my mouth. I believe atrocities have likely been committed by both sides.
Again I’m not denying that.
Just be aware propaganda is as common a technique as artillery barrages on war. Take anything you hear with a grain of salt.
“Take anything you hear with a grain of salt.”
A BIG one with this war.
