Rishi Sunak today U-turned on Cop27 and confirmed he will attend the climate summit in Egypt. It comes less than 24 hours after Boris Johnson piled further pressure on the PM by saying he would travel to Sharm El Sheikh for the United Nations meeting, which kicks off on Sunday.
But the U-turn by Mr Sunak, who initially said he would not attend the conference, has been branded "embarrassing" by critics.
The Prime Minister tweeted this morning: "There is no long-term prosperity without action on climate change.
"There is no energy security without investing in renewables.
"That is why I will attend CopP27 next week: to deliver on Glasgow's legacy of building a secure and sustainable future."
Mr Sunak initially ruled out attending Cop27 sparking widespread criticism.
But the decision of his arch-rival and former Downing Street neighbour to attend made it impossible to resist going.
Mr Johnson, who left office in September, yesterday said "yes, as it happens" when asked by Sky News if he was going.
The ex-PM said: "I was invited by the Egyptians so I'm very happy to go."
Asked if his successor in No 10 should go too, he said Mr Sunak has a "massive amount to do" with the Government's domestic agenda.
He added: "I happen to have a particular interest."
Mr Johnson argued it has become "unfashionable" to talk about the Cop26, which he hosted in Glasgow last year.
He said: "I want to talk a little bit about how I see things and how we see things in the UK."

He’s WEF, Jim.
GB is Lost.
Makes complete sense.
What to do when your constituents face tremendous food challenges? Go to a climate change orgy and scheme new methods to deprive them of even more food supply. As they often say in the UK...Brilliant!
Yeah. #GBisScrewed.
“...building a secure and sustainable future.”
I have no idea where he is on the political spectrum, but the fact that he’s using language like the above instead of talking about, say, thorium power and the emergency use of coal says he’s like every other liberal. Here’s the thing, the abrupt energy about-face by Germany will have ripple effects. I think that the “secure and sustainable” folks were just wearing that language like teenage girls experiment with fashion...hemline up, hemline down, metal poked through their lips and the odd rebellious tattoo. That kind of fashion, but for politics. And, that kind of political fashion is rapidly yesterday’s language. “Fersure, dude.”
The World Communist Party wins on Weather Change.
Of course he is. Never a doubt.
The UK has a Deep State, too, and it’s in charge.
What the UK desperately needs and doesn’t have is a Trump.
And with their parliamentary system, they’re not likely to get one.
UK continues to go down the climate change rabbit hole. It’s not going to end well.

It's too bad that England has remained heavily reliant on imports for decades. I would have hoped they would have done more after WW I & II. They were still rationing food into the 50's. Britain's snowflakes will be traumatized.
The world is experiencing the worst energy crisis in fifty years, let a gathering which will spew who knows how much CO2 and use megawatts of electricity and millions 8f barrels of oil go ahead in NYC. Albeit NYC is very nice this time of year.
