Fox News Power Rankings: Republicans expected to control House, but both parties hold on to pathways in Senate

Republicans are winning on the economy and crime, and that translates into a decisive House majority. In the Senate, it’s all about the toss-up races, and Democrats still have a fighting chance to keep control. The final edition of Fox News Power Rankings for 2022 sees shifts in 18 competitive House races, two Senate races and three governor's races.

House: GOP expected to take control with clear majority as party finds opportunities in blue states.

The Power Rankings forecast expects Republicans to take control of the House with a 19-seat majority, or 236 total seats. That is a gain of 23 seats compared to the number they hold in Congress today.

We need the Senate as well to prevent a SCOTUS appointment next year.

The Fox News estimate is modest compared to partisan outfits like Trafalgar, which believes Republicans will win everything. I tend to believe the reality is somewhere in between. Not as rosy as Trafalgar, not as low as Fox News.

Ok. Here’s the pathway for those in the media (like Bret Baier) who are noticeably less giddy this year than in 2018:

Republicans don’t lose any seats (Republicans retain OH, NC, WI, PA, AK).

Democrats lose seats (GA, AZ, NV, NH, WA - any or all of these)

That’s the pathway.

As usual, Fox News has negative reporting on GOP election prospects.

I guess they feel the need to reach out across the aisle to the Dems to show them how "fair and balanced" they are. That's been their mentality for quite some time now. OTOH, their prime-time shows are certainly pro-GOP.

Fox doing their best to serve the GOPe. Many pollsters (the honest one’s) are now giving the GOP a more than solid chance of flipping the Senate. It is more a question of by how many seats. But Fox can’t bear to admit that any Trump candidate could possibly win.

And that “pathway” is 100% identical to the little pathway that leads to the “little house away from the house” on old time country homesteads.

Due to mail in voting, I think that they lose PA. I could also see them losing WI because of the Milwaukee vote machine. But the polls have Johson doing really well there.

But I can just as easily see them winning GA and NV and, quite frankly, AZ or NH.

The funny thing is this, and it isn’t funny at all, the only reason I don’t see them winning all of those is fraud.

Fox news has been mostly solid. Their continuing crime and inflation coverage while all the others covered J6 hearings was a help to Republicans.

My forecast:

House 235 - 200 (GOP + 35)

Senate 53-47 (GOP + 6)

Note: 3rd Party Libertarian in AZ has dropped out and endorsed Masters.

RCP has it at 228 safe/leaning Republican seats, 174 safe/leaning Democrat seats with 33 tossups.

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2022/house/elections-map.html

The Fox News poll has been one of the least accurate and most biased toward Democrats for several election cycles.

Republicans need to win two of the four tossups:
Pennsylvania
Nevada
Georgia
Arizona
They are slight favorites to do that, but it could go either way.

My prediction is the same as yours, though I think 35 is the opening bid, and could be 40

+23 in the House is quite realistic, actually. Might even turn out to be on the optimistic side if the alleged Red Wave isn’t as extensive as we want it to be.

If you want to see some real Kool-Aid drinkers, check the House ratings at Real Clear Politics — and some people feel that site still isn’t ENOUGH of a shill for our side.

According to their district ratings, even if the Democrats win EVERY tossup race, Republicans will still pick up 25-30 seats in the House. And if we merely split the tossups.... WOW!!!!!!! LOL.

My prediction:

House: 238 R - 197 D (+26 gain)

Senate: 51 R - 49 D (+1 gain)

Re the Senate, the Philly fraud machine will likely flip that seat to the Fetterman and the dems, but the R’s will make it up (hopefully) in GA and NV.
