I’m looking forward to the partitioning of Ukraine into Polish west, Russian east, and a tiny bit of territory in between for Zalensky and his rainbow brigade.

I want NEW leadership for Ukraine, that is thoroughly Orthodox (under Metropolitan Onufriy please) and at peace with Russia and its other neighbors!!!!

Zelensky and his family can go live in Canada, where there are many Ukrainians. The homo brigade can go fry ice!!!!

Lightman, it is not that simple.

Note that Poland does not want western Ukraine - even the most die-hard nationalists in Konfederacja at the most want Lwów (though they don’t explain how making it an island like West Berlin would help). Most Poles would like an acknowledgement of Poland and Ukraine’s shared past in Lwów/L’viv and that’s it.

The majority of Western Ukraine are NOT Poles or Polish speakers - remember that ethnicity is a very fluid concept.

My wife’s great-grandmother was a Ruthenian Latin rite Catholic who got married to a Ruthenian Byzantine rite Catholic. They agreed that the girls would be brought up Latin rite and the boys to be Byzantine rite. And that’s repeated in many families.

Also many “Polish gentry” i.e. szlachta, from the east were Ruthenian in origin who adopted the Polish language and became Latin rite Catholic.

Similarly in the east the “ethnicity” is so fluid - what is the difference between a Russian in Belgorad and a Ukrainian in Kharkiv - even assuming that the Ukrainian is a purely Ukrainian speaker? Next to nothing - their languages are mutually intelligible and they are both Eastern Orthodox and both Slavic in culture. The only difference is political.

Please don’t believe this as a war against Russia leave alone against Eastern Orthodoxy (the latter is even stranger as the Ukrainians are majority Eastern Orthodox).

This is also not a cultural war as Putin and his band have tried to portray it. Both Ukrainians and Russians are far less religious than even the average American - and I include the Muslim Russians among those.

This war was simply because Putin, who has been a dictator for 22 years, did not want to see an East Slavic state become less corrupt and more democratic.

It is bad enough that the Central European Slavic states (from Putin’s point of view) embraced democracy and showed an alternative to the Mongol Khaganate idea of Russia, but if Ukraine (i.e. Red Russia - “red” meaning south) took a low corruption stance, then next you would have peasants in Black Russia (”black” meaning north in the Turkic cardinal system adopted by the East Slavs - “white” meant west as in white Russia ie. “bela”Rus and “blue” meant east) would also rebel and ask for the same.

The ordinary Russian lives a poor life outside the megapolis of St Petersburg and Moscow - and that’s because the oligarchs have robbed so much of it.

Ukraine was only slightly better, but it was moving towards a brighter future.

Remember that the monks in Kyiv helped the protesters in 2014
