San Diego ER seeing up to 37 marijuana cases a day — mostly psychosis
NY Post ^ | 10/22/2022 | Leighton Woodhouse

“One clinical study showed that a moderate dose of pure THC causes psychotic symptoms in about 40% of people who lack a family history of psychosis. If you’re a casual user and your dosage is mild, that likely just means a touch of paranoia,” said neuroscientist Christine Miller, an expert on psychotic disorders.

Thirty-five percent of people who have experienced such symptoms, however, will go on to experience a full psychotic break, according to another study, if they continue their high risk environmental exposure by continuing to use cannabis.

According to multiple studies, for those who have ever suffered a full cannabis-induced psychotic break, the chance that, if you still keep using, you’ll eventually develop permanent schizophrenia is almost 50 percent. That’s a higher conversion rate than amphetamines, opioids or LSD.

But what really makes THC more dangerous than those other drugs, experts say, is that so few people consider it dangerous at all. “We know fentanyl is bad. We know meth is bad,” said Dr. Libby Stuyt, a recently retired addiction psychiatrist in Colorado. “We don’t know that marijuana is bad.”

Ingesting even low THC 70s weed in large amounts can be uncomfortable
I’ve seen folks today who were chronic users swear off weed from a bad experience with high concentrates like live resin or diamonds

I would advise keeping ones marihuana ingestion or smoking down to something they can tolerate

Caution

I have friends who make top shelf illegal shine and I get it for folks who seem to prefer it

It’s 85-97% alcohol

Nobody drinks it by the liter normally cause they know better

Same with weed

Don’t overdo it especially with edibles or smokable concentrates

Only good thing is you can’t die from pot itself although someone may hit whatever that level is one day

Too much pot is similar to too much acid or psilocybin

But not near as intense or long

The panic attack from too much weed will pass

If you have access to benzodiazepines take them that is what the ER will give u

Or start drinking beer it counters it some

I have not smoked since 91 and not regularly since 84

But I will again one day when i can but even though I could usually outsmoke my peers I’ll use discretion

I liked it more than any other intoxicant pretty much

Don’t smoke in the day either unless camping or doing something relaxing outside like the beach

It’s good for sex

I know myself and all intoxicants and could always put it down

I am ambivalent about psychedelics

They are in another league

Micro dose if you must we were young stupid and didn’t know better in the early 70s
They are dangerous and can be life altering

Like the mafia scene end of casino when the boss says “why take the chance”

Concerning poor Jewish non Italian Dorfman when they decide to throw his name in the hat

I’m a professional and detest booze

It’s destroyed the lives of loved ones and friends too much as well as what we’ve endured from them

Weed

Makes some lazy and that’s an issue too admittedly but not as severe as booze abuse and I like the taste of booze and know red wine intimately and yes French is better $$$$$

Anyhow drug warriors flame away and have another toddy

That’s my 51 years experience what makes folks high

Meth and Booze potentially if only because of sheer numbers of abusers and Crack worst
Opiates which would be first tier if abused And powder coke and pharma speed second tier
Psychedelics just for the potential risk which is mentally draconian
Benzodiazepines for anxiety
Weed and nicotine

That order since they only make weak barbiturates for migraines I don’t include them but they would be second tier

Gluttony in fat America should be there somewhere along with uninformed kardashian stupidity

Best drug ever made by a long shot

Quaaludes whether rorer or lemon or sopor or parest or mandrax

But don’t drive and girls don’t take your clothes off in a room full of boys or other naked girls too

You may love everyone at the moment and we’re all friends here but tomorrow morning will be a new reality

Before I get scolded I’d like to declare I was always the one who saved the lovey dovey maiden from the orgy or gang bang

I wasn’t raised that way

If grown women wish to go all Plato’s retreat that’s on them

Ditch Biscuits were best enjoyed with your lover and don’t drive or have over two drinks

Anyhow they are long gone a figment of lore like milk of the poppy

“Thing is these people are California democrats and by default already disturbed. A little marijuana nudge pushes them over the edge.”

^^ Truth. Look, I’m in San Francisco, and I can’t walk down the street anymore without catching a wift of cannabis smoke. Most of our crazy people (on and off the streets) are high on weed on a daily basis. The Dems want to pin Paul Pelosi’s “hemp jewelry”-making assailant on MAGA, but frankly the key word there is “hemp.” I don’t know Mr. DePape, but I *guarantee* that significant THC presence shows up in his toxicology screen. Anyone care to wager otherwise? The paranoia and delusions are classic symptoms.

As someone who in a former life has spent a lot of time on patrol with LEOs in a major crime-ridden American city as part of a year long training observation assignment I can assure you weed is the LEAST of the substances causing the issues on the streets. Alcohol, fentanyl/heroin, coke/crack, meth… in that order. It weed harmless? No. But it’s nowhere near what Right Wing Vegan, who has pathological levels of hatred for it, constantly makes it out to be.

“One clinical study showed that a moderate dose of pure THC causes psychotic symptoms in about 40% of people who lack a family history of psychosis..."

Well duh!

It's been almost fifty years since I got high but I can still tell you, that was the whole point.   Do they think kids were smoking weed to blow pretty smoke rings?

In return I'll ask what the point of this article is?   They just like beating a dead horse?

I have 6 LEO friends, and I know the reality.(at least around Philly & Wilmington)
Women and children beaten. Deaths by drunk driving.
Rape, fights, regret, etc.
Renal and hepatic failure...

alcohol is LOUD....weed is that silent little drug that is insidious....

you see a drunk you know he's a drunk and shouldn't drive....

you see a weed head and you frankly don't know what he is going to do....

just admit it.....weed has mental effects on people and once they come up with an immediate blood test/urine test/breath test we will see the true carnage....what's been blamed solely on alcohol is probably a mix of alcohol/weed/opiates...

for me, I drink rarely....so I'm not defending anybody.

So about 1% of very hardcore users develop Schizophrenia.

About the same as the general population.

While 10s of millions of casual users never suffer any ill effects at all.

I never stated weed doesn’t have deleterious effects, of course it does. Compared to weed, from everyone I personally know in law enforcement, alcohol is far worse.

I know/knew people dead from alcohol. Zero from weed.
Some people that are mentally ill use weed. There true issue isn’t weed, but mental illness.

It’s well known people use alcohol and drugs to self medicate issues.

Booze clearly makes people violent, makes them pound on their wife and kids and causes nasty fatality wrecks.

Hmmm, what state? Washington State Cannabis and Liquor Control Board which regulates pot in the State requires testing for fertilizer and pesticide residue from State licensed growers and something tells me if any Fentanyl showed up from a grower, that grower would see Hell rained down upon them in short order. The State isn’t going to allow their little money tree to get diseased.

From seed to cutting to tissue culture propagation each unit is assigned a bar code that follows it all the way to the point of sale. Additionally the producer has to CCTV with a constant live stream to the WSCLB monitors. What sane person would jeopardize their license, capital investment and protecting shareholders by inserting Fentanyl into the mix?

As far as your cop relative finding Fentanyl in weed, probably so, but not from a “state licensed producer.” Herijuana….Unbelievable but I’m sure there’s fools who want it.

Better for its very minimal risks to be known, examined, and reported than pushed underground by nutjobs who trust the government to control people.

Pretty much

And schizophrenia is typically adult onset which somewhat dovetails with pot use

They are piggybacking this with weed onto the known cases of LSD exacerbating schizophrenia potential in some users

Too much weed is basically a bad panic attack

A severe bad trip from acid can be much more

Not much question it affected folks like Syd Barrett and Peter Green

There have been plenty sadly

I’m lucky my first trip didn’t end that way

My resolve was to conquer psychedelics which I did but then again you don’t see me lining up to take it now even though micro dosing is in vogue

I have respect for it

Drugs are supposed to feel good not be a test

Hattip pranksters

What is "live resin or diamonds?"   Resin is resin, so what makes it live when it cannot be be live?   Diamonds?   What does that have to do with marijuana and THC?

You can prove it yourself: marijuana is harmful. You can prove it both logically and historically.

Logical: Marijuana makes you feel good at the same time that it is distorting your perception of reality. Therefore, your mind is being conditioned chemically to have a distorted perception of reality.

Historical: The Native Americans controlled the usage of marijuana. They allowed it very seldom, at special religious gatherings. This way, they kept it by regulation out of ordinary use.

You don’t need the scientific studies.

Lol that is definitely true. The entire culture is built around booze and music… (my wife is Irish and lived in Ireland for years before we met) and I remind her that the Irish are the Mexicans of Europe due to the love of the music and booze combo. She doesn’t argue back.
