Russia pulls out of grain export deal over Crimea drone attack

Russia has said it is suspending its participation in the agreement to ensure the continuation of Ukrainian grain exports — vital for food supplies to poor countries — linking the decision to a drone attack on Russian ships in occupied Crimea on Saturday morning.

The defence ministry announced the move, and it was also reported by the state news agency TASS.

"Taking into account the terrorist act carried out by the Kyiv regime with the participation of British experts against ships of the Black Sea fleet and civilian vessels involved in the security of grain corridors, Russia suspends its participation in the implementation of the agreement on exports of agricultural products from Ukrainian ports," the Russian defence ministry announced on Telegram.

The move comes a day after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged Russia and Ukraine to renew the deal that has seen more than nine million tons of grain exported from Ukraine and brought down global food prices.

Earlier on Saturday, the Russian military blamed Ukraine and Britain for what it called a massive drone attack on its Black Sea fleet in Crimea, a peninsula annexed by Moscow.

Ukraine is not going to defeat Russia on battlefield.

Don't be so sure. They seem on track to do just that.

Russia is not Iraq or Afghanistan

No it isn't. But I think you've got your analogy backwards. Nobody is trying to invade and occupy Russia - Russia is trying to invade and occupy Ukraine, and it lacks the will, weapons, training or manpower to do so successfully. If the US couldn't hold Afghanistan, how on earth are the Russians going to occupy Ukraine?

they put a man in space

Yeah and so what? We've put many men in space and we lost to the Taliban and the Ukrainians are a lot more capable than the Taliban ever was. The Russians can't even defeat the Ukrainian Army in pitched battles, let alone pacify the territory they've already occupied.

think about that it is like Ukraine fighting against America...what would you recommend for them to do if that was the case then?

I would encourage the Ukrainians to finish the job. Time is on their side, Russia can't possibly sustain this foolish adventure.

“The US Government has its panties in a wad over Putin because of the threat Putin poses to the US dollar.”

The US Government is a far bigger threat to the dollar than Russia ever will be.

“Actually the Russians were already there (in several parts of Ukraine)..

“Russia is in Ukraine because Americans are in Ukraine.”

Even though they PLAY DUMB, these people here, making these comments, all know the history in Ukraine - they’re more interested in testing their Neocon talking points for when they talk with others.

...because its obsessed old man in the Kremlin can’t stop warmongering

Warmongering?

You do understand that you're addressing an audience that's mostly American, right?

What our government knows about warmongering would make Putin look like a Boy Scout.

That is hysterical. You ignore the treaty of Versailles that guaranteed WW2. History is a tough teacher.

I’m still not sure why a Canuck is so hell bent on a foreign, to you, country doing things your own country won’t. Your country is hell bent on war against its own truckers though. Interesting.

Funny, the Russians claim that Russian-speaking Ukrainians are really Russians, but weirdly enough the Russian-speaking Ukrainians don't seem to agree with that assessment.

The Russians have completely flattened Russian-speaking cities like Mariupol, killing thousands of Russian-speaking Ukrainians and the Ukrainian armed forces are filled with Russian-speakers fighting against what they consider to be foreign occupation. I agree with you that Russian propaganda considers Kharkiv, Odesa and other parts of Ukraine where they speak Russian to be Russia - but the population overwhelmingly disagrees and has shown they are willing to fight and die to test that proposition.

“this World War could end tomorrow if the lunatic neocons in America would stop pushing for conflict with Germany”

in 1940 Germany was attacking actual allies of the USA and we had significant economic interests tied up with those allies as well.

Regarding our relationship with Ukraine .... umm .... US politicians get rich? I got nothing. Oh, but it's the principle! We have to stop war when we see it! Right, that's why you advocate for us going into keep peace all over Africa right? Oh, no you don't. Because it doesn't concern us. Hmmmm.

In your 13%, Ghana or Cameroon = the US or Germany.

5 countries actively support Russian, the rest either oppose it or don’t pick sides.

If the US “didn’t pick a side”, more Ukraininian will die (and more Russian’s will die in the long run) because Ukraine isn’t giving up any time soon, and there is no reason for them to give up.

Russia failed in its objective to install a puppet governemnt and therefore its over and they are in a never ending quagmire.

Russians are just too dumb to realize it.

don’t jump to conclusions like that, you know better. I favor neither side, and do like to look at both sides of the coin.

lol. It is worth mentioning that little to none went to poor countries.

I don't think you're right but in any event grain is fungible - if the supply goes up the price goes down, that's how markets usually work.

You ignore the treaty of Versailles that guaranteed WW2.

Are you really blaming the West and the Jews for WW2 instead of, I don't know, Hitler and the Nazis? Go jump in a lake.

All this could end tomorrow if Putin pulled his troops out. It really is that simple.

Let me try to summarize a complicated situation in a simple way for you.

Soros and Western Intelligence agencies installed a corrupt Neo Nazi regime through propaganda, subterfuge and election fraud that continuously murdered and harassed people in the parts of Ukraine which have a majority of Russian speakers. This was provocative in itself since Russia and Ukraine had actually been one and the same for nearly a thousand years.

Russia made it clear from the beginning that they would consider it a provocative act if their former satellite which has been part of Russia for approximately a thousand years became part of NATO. Yet NATO and the corrupt Neo Nazi regime in Ukraine have continued to push for NATO membership. In June 2021 at the “Brussels summit” that Ukraine was going to become a NATO member whether Russia liked it or not. On November 30, 2021 Putin formally announced that Ukrainian membership in NATO and especially the deployment of any long-range missiles capable of striking Moscow or missile defense systems similar to those now in Romania and Poland, would be a “red line” issue for the Kremlin.

NATO and the US kept pushing for this anyway and the rhetoric became more and more heated until Russia invaded on February 21. What this signaled was a complete failure of an almost nonexistent diplomatic process. In other words if you keep poking the bear... something bad is going to happen.

EU nations and the US intelligence were hoping to put Russia in its place and embarked on a journey that represents economic suicide and the death and misery of countless Ukrainians supposedly for their own good. This has been stupid policy from the beginning. You are the victim of nonstop propaganda of often ridiculous proportions. This is most similar to WWI which could have been avoided easily which resulted in millions of deaths and which then also led to WWII and more unimaginable carnage.

The difference here is that if our obviously rightfully elected leader President Trump had not been ousted by what can be described best as a deep state coupe... none of this crap would currently be taking place. Is that simple enough for you?

Yeah, I know, appeasement leads to more aggression especially with imperialists as Putin is proving to be. Stopping military aid would not be appeasement.

Stopping military aid would open the door to Putin threatening US allies in the Baltics and Poland and even Germany and suggest to the Chinese that we won't assist Taiwan when they invade. Not sure why we would want that.
