Russia pulls out of grain export deal over Crimea drone attack

Russia has said it is suspending its participation in the agreement to ensure the continuation of Ukrainian grain exports — vital for food supplies to poor countries — linking the decision to a drone attack on Russian ships in occupied Crimea on Saturday morning.

The defence ministry announced the move, and it was also reported by the state news agency TASS.

"Taking into account the terrorist act carried out by the Kyiv regime with the participation of British experts against ships of the Black Sea fleet and civilian vessels involved in the security of grain corridors, Russia suspends its participation in the implementation of the agreement on exports of agricultural products from Ukrainian ports," the Russian defence ministry announced on Telegram.

The move comes a day after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged Russia and Ukraine to renew the deal that has seen more than nine million tons of grain exported from Ukraine and brought down global food prices.

Earlier on Saturday, the Russian military blamed Ukraine and Britain for what it called a massive drone attack on its Black Sea fleet in Crimea, a peninsula annexed by Moscow.

The world is turning it’s back on the US

I saw that Guinea-Bissau just jumped on board the Putin train with North Korea.

Looks like we all better abandon Ukraine before it's too late.

The Crimea has been Russian ever since Catherine the Great took it from the Ottoman Turks in 1783. Russia will never give it up.

I agree that this is Putin's perspective, but his enemy gets a vote.

Sorry, Russian speaking Ukrainians fighting like hell to repel the invaders is pure propaganda. You should try and check your sources.

Oh yeah? How's the occupation of Odesa and Kharkiv going? Dnipro? Were the Russians greeted as liberators when they got to Mariupol? Look, I get that some reasonable people could assume that Russian-speaking Ukrainians might side with the Russians in February. But it's plainly obvious by now that the overwhelming majority are not in fact doing that.

Near all of Russia’s neighbors are sending money and weapons to Ukraine. To kill Russians by the thousands.

But some internet posters sitting comfortable arm chairs in Rio Linda really know what’s going on here. I’ll trust the judgement of Russia’s neighbors. They know all to painfully what the Russian world is capable of.

Do you mean Rhodesia?

The Breadbasket of Africa, capable of feeding the continent of Africa.

Perhaps you haven’t heard of South Africa?

“but part of me thinks that BobL hit on something when he said that these people know this history all too well.”

Yep, I make that claim because most of the people who imply that Putin invaded Ukraine because he felt like crap when he got out of bed on Feb 24 - have been on these threads for 8 MONTHS now and have been told the history, over and over.

They know...and they’re PERFECTLY FINE with our instigating this war. After all, it’s not their kids fighting it (yet).

“He is not the one pushing for a world war it’s you neocon globalists that are doing that.”

I agree that Putin is not pushing for a world war, but neither are the Neocons. The Neocons (along with their Globalist allies) simply NEED TO CONTROL the world or their Great Reset cannot work*. While the Neocons would prefer taking over the world peacefully, if it takes wars, even a nuclear war, then so be it.

*the problem for the Neocons/Globalists if they do not control the world is that Russia will continue selling very cheap fuel to the rest of the world, and the Green New Deal and other parts of the Great Reset, will drive the West, and only the West, into horrific poverty, while the rest of the world prospers. That’s why this drive towards world domination is so critical to the Neocons and Globalists.

"Stopping military aid would open the door to Putin threatening US allies in the Baltics and Poland and even Germany and suggest to the Chinese that we won't assist Taiwan when they invade. Not sure why we would want that."

I get that you're looking at the bigger picture, but I doubt Putin would attack NATO and its allies which could escalate into a full nuclear exchange. To me, he just wants his precious USSR back, or maybe he has turn batshit senile like our Biteme.

As for Taiwan, I doubt any US president would go full on war with China now that they have built up their military machine.

As an 11 year Cold War swabbie being threatened by the Soviet military almost daily, I've since become somewhat of an isolationist. As President, I would stay out of all these internal and imperial wars. My statement to the World would be, "Fight amongst yourselves, we won't take nor support sides. However, if you even threaten America or its closest allies or the open seas or our national interests, we will rain hell on you from all directions. Our new nuclear policy is to launch first. We won't wait for your incoming."

Winners write the rules and right now that is Russia. American are becoming increasingly tried of Z and his begging for money and equipment. Once the new Congress is seated aid to the Ukraine will be limited. I’ve already informed my GOP congressman, Randy Weber, I will not be voting for him because of his support for endless, useless wars. I’ve only done that(not vote GOP) once before, John McCain.

Of course. They tell these Bolshevik fairy tales over and over until its The Truth in their “globohomo” fevered minds. The reality is Obama sent blankets to Ukraine and deferred to Putin lover Merkel. He sent a few old broken down HUMVEES, too. Merkel bullied Ukraine into a frozen conflict at Minsk. Trump sent Javelins to his credit.

Democrats had little interest Ukraine until the Trump-Russia nonsense started. Once that is gone so too will Democrat interest in Ukraine.
