Stop worrying and love the bomb: Proxy war with Russia is sliding toward apocalypse

Joe Biden, who doesn't always seem to be quite sure where he is or what he is supposed to be saying, is being propped up in the I-am-a-bigger-man-than-you contest with Vladimir Putin by a coterie of rabid warmongers who have orchestrated over 20 years of military fiascos. They are salivating at the prospect of taking on Russia, and then, if there is any habitation left on the globe, China. Trapped in the polarizing mindset of the Cold War — where any effort to de-escalate conflicts through diplomacy is considered appeasement, a perfidious Munich moment — they smugly push the human species closer and closer toward obliteration. Unfortunately for us, one of these true believers is Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Ukraine, media censorship and the ruthless politics of permanent war

"Putin is saying he is not bluffing. Well, he cannot afford bluffing, and it has to be clear that the people supporting Ukraine and the European Union and the Member States, and the United States and NATO are not bluffing neither," EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell warned. "Any nuclear attack against Ukraine will create an answer, not a nuclear answer but such a powerful answer from the military side that the Russian Army will be annihilated."

Annihilated. Are these people insane?

You know we are in trouble when Donald Trump is the voice of reason.

"Idiot."

Yep. The author lost all credibility right there.

I have ZERO trust that the professional political and diplomatic classes will ever do the right thing or what's in the interest of the country and its citizens. NONE whatsoever.

I trust CITIZEN leaders a lot more. That was the vision of the Founders for the country and they were absolutely right.

Was it “saber rattling” when Biden refused many military aid requests from Ukraine in 2021? After election day a GOP Congress will authorize more aid for Ukraine than Biden will give. That’s what happened in 2014 and will happen again now.

Everybody wants peace

Only if it enhances their political resume to their followers.

Almost all of Russia’s neighbors are sending money and arms to Ukraine. To kill invading Russians. Now put your thinking cap on and ask yourself why that is. I’ll buy you a clue: this has got nothing to do with us. Russia has been murdering, raping and robbing its smaller neighbors for centuries. Long before NATO. Russia’s neighbors know it far better than internet posters in Rio Linda. And Paris.

Now Russia is trying to get its empire back while the Kremlin’s useful idiots cheer right along. It’s that simple.

The “one side” refusing to go home and negotiate is, drum roll please, RUSSIA!

100%. If Russia had invaded Canada, would the US support peace talks?

How does Poland feel about allowing the Russian invasion to stand?

... one side refuses to negotiate at all.....and that is Ukraine.

Russia is acting like the lefties, where "working together" means giving in to them.

Yes, this myopic argument like in this article is a mix of fear, rationalization, and faulty logic. This is 1938, and Putin is not a friend of the US to say through some twisted transitive logic of Putin hates the NWA --> I hate the NWA --> Therefore Putin is a friend of mine. This guy is a common criminal with the same old ambitions...EMPIRE and ultimately Auschwitz.

Ok so we are in the appeasement movement now? So by the logic here in the article if Russia invades Poland or some other NATO country we should not do anything because there may be a nuclear exchange. The Putler lovers here would move the goalposts..."Well this really is a European problem". We either fight Putin now through a proxy war or we can go toe to toe when he invades the Aleutians and instead of 100 billion or so we spend 10 trillion fighting Russia and China and probably north of 500 million dead throug a horrendous world war.

It could be done but only if the money stops flowing.

Russia has insisted at the outset on keeping that Ukrainian territory. If that's Russia's position, there are no negotiations to be had because you know before you start that settlement is impossible.

Sorry, but Russia is open to negotiations. Turkey has tried to bring Ukraine into negotiations with Russia, but Ukraine keeps refusing.

Your "IF" is not a reason to refuse negotiations.

Russia and its fan club don’t want negotiations.

You are a liar. Therefore, the rest of your opinions are worthless.

“where any effort to de-escalate conflicts through diplomacy is considered appeasement, a perfidious Munich moment”

Putin learned the lesson of Munich. That appeasement of an expansionist socialist entity will never succeed. Ultimately you have to have something you will fight for. The lesson of Munich is reversed. NATO/DC/London was warned again and again... yet the persisted.
Putin did exactly what he said he would do.

He learned the lesson of Munich and didn’t want to be Chamberlain.

Maybe if Canada invaded the US and took Maine and Vermont and the UK decided to offer nuclear assistance to Canada you would just say...I know you are taking 2 of our states to let's negotiate now...and you can keep them. See how stupid that sounds?

I thought Conservatives support the concepts of Borders, Langauge, and Cultures. I guess that is all fine until your 401k dips 100k, then it's... let's settle so I can go back to worshipping my money again.

They are going to have their war, mark it down. The size of it is all that is in question.

“Those days when Russia had any ideas of expansion are long gone “

The proof of that is that at the start of the war, the Russian military was roughly 10% of the size it was during the Fulda Gap days... and they ere trading with the EU, and built a pipeline to deliver even more gas and bypass sticky fingers, transit fee grifting Ukraine.
