Longtime political observers were shocked by Democrat John Fetterman’s display in Tuesday night’s Senate debate against Dr. Mehmet Oz, in which the Pennsylvania lieutenant governor repeatedly stumbled over his words — and lapsed into incoherence on more than one occasion.
At one point the tattooed 53-year-old said, “I do not believe in supporting the Supreme Court” in response to a question about whether the high court should have its traditional nine justices.
In another awkward moment, Fetterman gave a jumbled answer following a long pause after he was asked about his stance on fracking.
“I do support fracking and — I don’t, I don’t, I support fracking and I stand and I do support fracking,” he managed to say after the moderator pointed out Fetterman had stated clearly in a 2018 interview that he did not support the controversial procedure.
After the debate, Democrats and journalists were left to pick up the pieces.
“It’s not his fault, but Lt. Gov. Fetterman struggled,” NewsNation host Chris Cuomo said off the top of his post-debate show. “And again, I’m not faulting him for it, I don’t think his preparation was great, but he clearly is dealing with health issues.”
“I spoke to Fetterman recently, and I expected him to be very bad tonight,” tweeted Charlotte Alter of Time magazine. “But he was much much worse than I expected (and much worse than in our one-on-one conversation.)”

Not a “blind” supporter, but a realistic one - Oz is who we ended up with - and that’s who I’m going to have to vote for; not just because we need the majority in Senate, but because he at least agrees with SOME of the values I hold, and he will, hopefully, remember which side of his bread is buttered, and by whom.
Stunned? They should have known better than to accept a debate in the first place and just cheated their way through to putting this vegetable in office. It was like big, bad poachers clubbing a baby seal, only there were no poachers - it was the vegetable all by himself. They did this. The DNC’s britches got too big for them.
Out of 240 million people vying for 100 Senate sets, Is fetterman the best choice?
He’s a trust fund brat who literally fell into this position by extreme luck and hubris and media carrying him from mayor on
Please name one value that Oz held before he chose to run for office that agrees with your values.
That poor reporter who suggested that Fetterlump wasn’t coherent is due an apology
In his speeches & mailings say that he supports restrictions on abortion, 2nd Amendment rights (with background checks??), is against forced (coerced) "vaccines" & masking, is for re-funding police, stopping the illegal immigrants pouring across the border, energy independence (esp. in PA_), free speech/religion and ensuring secure elections,
Will he "fudge" on some of these if elected? Probably, but at least he can be pressed to stand by what he claims.
My Representative is "no labels", wishy-washy Fitzpatrick, but at least he votes with the Republicans most of the time. Dr. Oz should do the same.
He should have used the Hillary Defense.
“Mistakes were made”
Republicans can never defeat the Hillary Defense.
She’s a good girl
Wow, are you naive about politics.
Shapiro was the top law enforcement officer in PA for the last 6 years as crime spiraled out of control. But all his campaign speeches and mailings say that he is going to be tough on crime.
You would believe him.
She’s a good girl
“It’s not his fault...”
It’s not his fault that he had a stroke. It is his fault that he chose to continue campaigning and embarrass himself.
Pay no attention to that guy. Read the last sentence on his FR Home Page tells you everything you need to know about the loser.
I get it. He’s a DU troll.
