Ukraine has lost up to 90% of wind and about 40-50% of solar energy due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of the country, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko told the We – Ukraine YouTube channel on Oct. 23.
Earlier Ukraine’s electricity transmission system operator Ukrenergo said the scale of damage from the attacks on energy facilities on the morning of Oct. 22 was on par with or might exceed the consequences of Russian missile attacks on Oct. 10-12.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Russian strikes had already destroyed up to 30% of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Much of the solar loss is likely due to inverters needing a live grid to feed into. We all know that power outages shut down most solar generation.
So all Russia has to do is knock out the traditional generation and the solar comes down too !!

I can explain the loss of solar energy and it isn’t Russia. The Earth is tilted on its axis so that sunlight illuminates the uppermost portion more in the summer and less in the winter. Solar radiation increases its incidence through the summer and then decreases starting at the end of June. It might be 65 % of a day gets sunlight in June but by the end of September less than half a day gets sunlight.
