The soldiers, who say they are from Krasnodar in southern Russia, claim that after a month of being transported between different locations, they were dropped off "somewhere in the fields of Ukraine" with no radio, no ammunition and no medicine. They say they do not even know where they are.
The men add that they are living in holes dug out of the ground with their bare hands as temperatures drop to zero at night time. Two people are so sick they need to be hospitalised, the men say.
"There is no information, no command. We sit like on [tenterhooks], because we do not know where are our own [and] where are the enemy. No radio, no cartridges, no s***," one says.
They claim that their families even had to pay for their military uniforms and that they had to dig the holes with their hands because they were not provided with shovels .
"No shovel, nothing with us... We live just in the field... They bring some food, literally two times a day. We burn fires, chop trees, dig," one says.
It is just the latest information to emerge about the treatment of men mobilised by Russia to fight in Ukraine, many of whom have been sent to the frontlines without training.
British intelligence had previously indicated that Russian conscripts were being forced to pay for their own body armour.
Meanwhile in a recent video posted from the Stavropol region in southern Russia, a soldier displayed the kit he had been given, which included a plastic paintballing mask and children's gloves.
Some men mobilised just last month have already been killed and sent back to Russia in coffins.
It comes amid indications that the partial mobilisation of troops is UNDERMINING SUPPORT for President Vladimir Putin in Russia.

This particular article doesn’t interest me much but the more meaningful and convincing articles about the Russian military and their call-up/draft, and their supporting systems do interest me.
A thought that occurred to me about the corruption of these two countries is that we can look at the two militaries and see the proof of which country is more corrupt.
The world is shocked at how competent, efficient, effective, and motivated the Ukrainians are while being even more shocked at learning how thorough and deep Russian corruption is as evidenced by their military.
The Russian military that we have been reading about for 20 years was one of the biggest illusions of our lifetimes, it seems to be a world of chaos and carelessness, indifference, and incompetence, where corruption and lying are the ruling culture of the military.
I’m sure DoorDash or Uber eats would gladly deliver food to them! 😆

I can understand working in harm’s way to get a story. It’s what war correspondents do. But the Telegraph is banned in Russia, and if they can just walk up to Russian soldiers in the trenches and talk to them, either they made it up, or there is no chain of command telling them in no uncertain terms to get lost before they start shooting. It’d be like that pro-Russian guy who covered Mariupol, Patrick Lancaster, walking up to Azov Battalion members in the trenches and shooting the breeze. He never tried that, because he knew what they would do to him.
It was actually much more than I thought....2-3 months. I had 7 uncles and my dad all on active duty in WWII. I was 2 months old when my dad joined. My bro was 4.

It is difficult to pin down how much training we got in WWII.

I did a lot of research, too...and said same as him. A lot of my knowledge is first hand...from my uncles and my mom and dad.

My father, The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC), told me to learn how to jump with a parachute, he had to jump from the top of a moving truck: not land solidly on your feet, to roll hit your shoulder & continue to roll.
They seemed to get a massive amount of training.

I think US soldiers are often issued an entrenching tool—a small shovel with a blade that folds back against the handle to save space while traveling. We had one when I was a kid 70 years ago.
I just realized that their plight is not yet as severe as it sounds. Zero is probably zero centigrade which is 32 farenheit. Zero f is much colder, bitterly cold. Zero C is cold at night but won’t give you frostbite if you have a winter uniform and a blanket.
