The “Apache” actress and activist wasn’t Native American, say her sisters. And that wasn’t the only thing she lied about.
You might not know her name, but you’ve probably seen the video that made her famous. In 1973, actress and activist Sacheen Littlefeather took the stage at the Oscars dressed in a beaded buckskin dress in place of Marlon Brando, after he was awarded Best Actor for his role as Vito Corleone in “The Godfather.” Claiming Apache heritage, she spoke eloquently, to a backdrop of boos, of the mistreatment of Native Americans by the film industry and beyond.
The blowback was swift and brutal.
Presenters ridiculed her during the broadcast. She told reporters that John Wayne had to be held back by six security guards to prevent him from rushing the stage and assaulting her. In taped interviews this year with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences shortly before her death, Littlefeather said that going onstage that night led to her being blacklisted from the entertainment business.
As the decades passed, however, the calm dignity with which she conducted herself that night, easily viewable on Youtube, won over many critics. And interviews she gave in the intervening years, describing a childhood of poverty growing up in a shack, where she and her white mother were victims of domestic abuse and violence by her White Mountain Apache and Yaqui Indian father, made her story a sympathetic one. As such, she enjoyed incredible public support when it was announced months ago that the Academy would finally apologize to her after nearly 50 years.

And the Oscars just ‘honored’ this liar, fraud and phony by providing an apology for how Sacheen Littlefeather was treated at the 1971 Academy Awards. sort of like apologizing to Elizabeth Warren for lying about her “Native American” heritage to steal the law professor slot at Harvard intended for a real Native American.
Her career was killed by the smarmy over-acting she piled on. That initial rejection wave was just laughable.
Colonel Boyington (who was partly Sioux and looked it) was played by Robert Conrad, who was of German heritage (and looked it).
Sounds like the only person in the country with less Indian blood than Elizabeth Warren was Littlefeather.

Why is it that so many seek to build themselves up or to fit in by making up lies that tear others down?
Wonder who she was trying to impress when she trashed John Wayne.
And it is inexcusably low to smear and dishonor your own father by falsely claiming he was a child abuser.
Poor guy died before the truth came out?
Sacheen Littlefeather made enough money from being a fake Indian to do OK in life. Plus how much fun is it having dumb white libs kissing your arse. An giving you donations for whatever. Did she run some phony India foundations?

Sopranos episode “Christopher” brings up Cody’s heritage.
Wiki: “born Espera Oscar de Corti, who came to be known as “The Crying Indian” – An Italian-American actor most well known for his appearance in a 1970’s anti-littering commercial. Cody pretended to be from various tribes and denied his Italian heritage for the rest of his life.”
