WASHINGTON, October 22. /TASS/. The US Army's 101st Airborne Division is ready to enter Ukraine in case of further tensions between Moscow and Kiev or an attack on a NATO member state, CBS News reported, citing the division’s command staff.

"We're ready to defend every inch of NATO soil," the division's Deputy Commander Brigadier General John Lubas said, as cited by the media outlet. Commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team Colonel Edwin Matthaidess, in turn, noted that his troops, deployed to Romania, have been "closely watching" the Russian forces, "building objectives to practice against" and conducting drills that "replicate exactly what's going on" in the war.

"In all, about 4,700 soldiers from the 101st Airborne's home base in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, have been deployed to reinforce NATO's eastern flank," CBS News noted.

"The commanders told CBS News repeatedly that they are always ‘ready to fight tonight,’ and while they're there to defend NATO territory, if the fighting escalates or there's any attack on NATO, they're fully prepared to cross the border into Ukraine," the media outlet added.

I didn’t bring up restitution you moron. Read a bit. I was commenting on someone else’s comment about it.

As far as I’m concerned the Russia flag should be flying wherever Putin wants it to in that country.

And as the original commenter, that I was responding to brought up with regards to war crimes, should Zelensky also be brought up them for how he treated those in Eastern Ukraine?

There is no NATO soil in Ukraine. There should already be NATO troops within NATO countries, but let Ukraine fight their own damned battles. They’re pretty good at it, from what I’ve heard.

They were hell bent on building an empire. That was the open goal of Peter the Great, of Elizabeth and Catherine, of Alexander I, Nicholas I, etc and etc. No “buffer” involved. Consider the reasons for, say, the war of 1877.

After 1991 Nato nearly collapsed. Budgets were cut, US troops were steadily removed - compare what the US had there in say 1989 vs today - and readiness was nil. Putin has single handedly revived Nato. You are crediting Russian propaganda, absurdly.

To all its neighbors Russia has always been extremely dangerous, whether it was called the USSR or not.

Free Republic used to be a place where you could have different viewpoints without engaging in endless personal attacks.

All of that ended with the Rise of Trump, and the zotting that followed. Before that, FReepathons were wrapped up in six weeks, IIRC.

My view has been shaped by the time I was stationed in Germany. I lived in a town on the Mosel River, which happened to be one of John Churchill's final victories in the Battle of Blenheim campaign. IOW, it's an area, from Trier to Koblenz, that has been fought over for 2000 years.

Winter is coming, which will add immensely to the human suffering taking place. Get the warring parties to the negotiating table to shut down the senseless war of words between Biden/Zelensky and Putin.

Russia's economy will be harmed for years to come, with Western Businesses having pulled out. I don't see Ukraine or Russia "winning".

Have at me. I stuck to my guns on Ronald Reagan in 1980. I was a 26 YO LT living in Traben-Trarbach. My neighbors were pleading with me to vote for Carter, they were so sure that Reagan would start WWIII. I engaged them entirely in German, too.

If someone can tell me how America is made stronger by continuing to funnel arms and greenbacks ad infinitum to Zelensky, I'd appreciate hearing it. The world is a safer place when America is strong, and the world is most assuredly not a safer place today.

I was lucky, I was safely ensconced on a couple of AF Bases during my tour in Germany, and there weren't any hot wars going on from 76-84, when I was on active duty. My 3 platoon sergeants (77-78) all did at least one tour in Viet Nam, and their experience made me a better platoon leader. I'll leave it there.

Did you see the second post? That was the western, warmongering version from one of your “approved, credible” sources, CBS. Read them both. This is a perfect example of fools refusing to look up from their media masters’ feeding trough. If you put the effort forth to look at ALL sources of info, not just approved disinfo, you might find the truth. What, by the way, was incorrect in the TASS report? What Russian propaganda did they include? What about the DC regime vomit as spoon fed to you by the government/media conglomerate? You’ve got some nerve.

And winter is brutal in Ukraine.

The coldest week in my life was spent in Todendorf, Germany. There's a German anti-aircraft range where our Towed Vulcans went for "spring" and summer service practice.

During February, freezing temps and the Baltic winds contributed to a wind chill well below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. It was miserable, to put it mildly. I'm sure Ukrainian winters are similar to that, if not colder.

Conversely, one of the greatest summers of my life was the following year, when I was the XO of the 40 man detachment there to support American units training there. We were the only Americans for 200 miles, we were real novelties. lol, never had any discipline problems, and it wasn't due to my great leadership...the tourist town nearby had the greatest concentration of newly divorced women I have ever seen, and they fell in love with my soldiers.

Russia was estimated, pre war, to be holding half its national wealth outside of Russia, part of it in private hands, that of its oligarchs, plus some portion in state owned assets. These would run the gamut of financial assets, property, etc. That is an interesting fact, also, about the nature of the Russian regime.

But be it as it may,

Thats a good source from which to pay restitution to Ukraine.
Or, more likely, it is leverage by which to exact a levy on Russian energy exports.

The Mexicans have the equivalent of ten divisions on our border, thanks to the cartels.

If war breaks out, as in an “attack on Nato” (ref the OP), then the S has already hit the F. It would be up to Russia to decide on nukes or not, but even conventionally they would have way more important things to worry about than Ukraine.

Just my opinion, but if that happens, look for China to make its move on Taiwan.

We don't have the military, or stomach, to deal with two conflicts simultaneously.

What, Nato didnt nearly collapse? Your lot was cheering a while ago that Germany said they were completely unprepared for war. Now Nato was an existential threat all along?

Choose one, and back it up.

This Nato threat excuse is Russian propaganda. It is false, a lie. What Putin was on about was that he wanted Ukraine helpless so he could run it like a puppet, like Belarus. For good old Russian imperial reasons.

"You probably think Japan bombed Pearl Harbor without any outside aggression towards them..."

Huh? WTF? I'd like to know who were causing "outside aggression" other than the China underground fighting against Japan's barbaric atrocities. If you're implying USA aggression, then please show where the US attacked Japan, other than trade sanctions. Please educate me and not with some book some so-called scholar wrote.
