Trump's yearslong crusade against Ukraine has finally come home to roost as Republicans call for abandoning Kyiv

In a phone call with Ukraine's president this month, US President Joe Biden pledged continued solidarity with Ukraine as it battles Russia's military invasion and illegal annexation of Ukrainian territory.

But that level of support could be in jeopardy if the GOP gains control of the House of Representatives in this year's midterm elections.

The warning signs have been building for months.

In April, 10 House Republicans voted against a bill allowing the Biden administration to more easily lend military equipment to Ukraine. The following month, 57 House Republicans voted "no" on a nearly $40 billion aid package for Ukraine. Both measures ultimately passed the chamber.

The United States made Al Qaeda strong to fight the Russians.

Show me how any money/weapons sent to the mujaheddin was used for 9/11.

If the United States didn’t make Al Qaeda strong, show me how it would become strong enough to do 9/11.

Osama bin Laden. The bin Laden family made $5 billion in the construction industry, of which Osama later inherited around $25–30 million.

Perhaps you are right, but those are Russia’s foreign policy problems.

Do you want your brother, father, husband, nephew, cousin, SON, or for that matter your DAUGHTER to go kick the Russians out of those places?

That would be an even bigger SLAUGHTER HOUSE than BRAINDEAD BIDEN is pushing us into.

Always be aware that the object of war is to KILL PEOPLE AND BLOW SHIT UP.

It’s like a family fight (Russia/Ukraine, been married for centuries), all you can do is hope they pull their heads out of their asses before they kill each other.

Other than that, stand back and watch.

“Trump’s yearslong crusade against Ukraine”

I do believe that is a lie. I have never heard Trump attack Ukraine. He is just always saying how the entire war would not have happened under his watch. I have never heard him takes sides against Ukraine.

Keep to hell out of there!

If you war mongrels are so concerned, why the hell dont you all donate all your money to the Ukraine so the rest of us dont have to have our money stolen and given for your fantasy?

Vast oceans still protect the US.
Avoiding foreign entanglements is not ignoring the world. It is putting REAL U.S. national security and national interests first. You may have heard of it.

Did Reagan 'avoid foreign entanglements'? I am against nation building but avoiding foreign entanglements means you can end up isolated, in a world dominated by an enemy like China.

Firstly, you misunderstand the meaning of foreign entanglements and what the word "beware" means. It does not mean avoid at all costs or never do it but would fit perfectly in with Reagan's mantra "Trust, but Verify". Also, as great as Reagan was, was not Iran-Contra a foreign entanglement that conservatives and GOP paid a price for politically.

So is Russia, who has thousands of nuclear missiles pointed at us, a REAL US national security interest or not?

Look, I think most people here are arguing to avoid ALL foreign entanglements, which is Rand Paul's position.

JJBookman: "“Avoid foreign entanglements”. - George Washington

tlozo: "During Washington's time vast ocean protected the US.
After 9/11 we learned you cannot ignore the world."

While George Washington was Commander in Chief of the Continental Army we got deeply entangled with foreign countries like France, Spain and the Netherlands, also received foreign assistance from Poland (Pulaski) and Prussia (von Steuben) among others.

Such "foreign entanglements" were essential to our victory in 1781.
It was also a huge reason why we returned in 1917 -- "Layfayette, we are here!"

Another word for "foreign entanglements" is "allies".
The US has often needed & supported our allies, beginning in the Revolutionary War.

"Can these “journalists” report on the entire history of Ukraine? I mean, who influenced their election in 2014? "

Here's all you need to know: at no time did Ukraine ever threaten or invade Russia.

That makes Ukraine right and Russia wrong, period.

"We are throwing money down a rat-hole while this war continues. There’s no benefit to us for this."

Events in Ukraine will set the pattern for future invasions of countries like Taiwan.
If Russia wins it will make China's aggressions easier.

In due time every two-bit tin-pot wannabe Hitler dictator will grab his share of the pie Americans won't help defend.

History is a stern instructor. Learn its lessons or die.

"No sane country would squander nearly $100 Billion of borrowed money on a totally corrupt, evil regime, led by the corrupt Zelensky, with no accountability?
Who else on this planet is that stupid? nobody."

Who on this planet is stupid enough to let Russians run roughshod over their smaller neighbors?

Lots of people, it seems.

No, I don't think you are correct even though I agree with you avoiding all foreign interactions is wrong. Some here argue for isolationist policies which do not work. But most, I believe, are arguing for America First. Help our allies yes, and counter our enemies yes, but with more brains and prudence then we have shown in the past which is very difficult with the entrenched swamp creatures we have in every corner of government.

The other thing to think about is this - since we are involved (read: hemorrhage money and blood) in almost every country in the world when we pull back or there is talk about America First or MAGA the knee-jerk reaction is to shout "Isolationist" because any small movement in the direction of "let's take care of home first" seems so radical to what we have become, the world's pocketbook for money and blood.

Since the ‘50s Russia has had thousands of nuclear missiles pointed at us.
Does that make getting into a proxy war against Russia in Ukraine a REAL U.S. national interest ?

Yes, the history is very messy. There really wasn’t a Russia or Ukraine until the 1300s. The shape and size of royal dominions changed constantly. They only just threw off the Mongol yoke before shaping their own destinies.
