Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy hints GOP won't impeach Biden cabinet officials - because Democrats used it against Trump for purely political purposes
Daily Mail ^ | 10/19/2022 | KATELYN CARALLE

Kevin McCarthy is not as eager as his GOP colleagues to immediately seek impeachment against Joe Biden's Cabinet members if they win back a majority in the November midterms.

Some Republicans are out for blood – seeking revenge by way of Biden and his team after Democrats politicized impeachment and sought it against Donald Trump two times during his four years in office.

The House GOP Leader, however, told Punchbowl News that Americans don't 'like impeachment used for political purposes at all,' and said 'the country wants to heal' and see a 'system that actually works.'

He also said that Republicans need to maintain their integrity by not turning around and engaging in the same politically-motivated actions that they railed against the opposing party for doing the last four years.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Attorney General Merrick Garland are the top two names that have been floated by some House Republicans as potential targets should the lower chamber turn red.

Some Republicans have even floated impeaching President Joe Biden, who turns 80 next month, by calling into question his physical and mental fitness to serve.

McCarthy, asked if anyone within the administration has engaged in conduct that would cause him to consider impeachment, said: 'I don't see it before me right now.'

'You watch what the Democrats did – they all came out and said they would impeach before Trump was ever sworn in,' the California Republican congressman said. 'There wasn't a purpose for it.'

It may be as simple as:

Oversight committee - DOJ/FBI malfeasance (sounds like Johnson already has a head start)
Oversight committee - Malfeasance re: the border, NGO involvement, look to identify sources and flow of funding, wo us calling the shots, etc.
Oversight committee - money flowing overseas, with emphasis on identifying what is flowing back into whose pockets, persons involved

Those three alone could suss out a lot. And when asked, answer that the evidence is being structured as a RICO case in each instance, sitting and waiting for 2024, because there still exist RINO quislings and Democrats who will prevent any attempt to exact justice, stress the importance of MAGA, and that the litmus test in 2024 is a President who will appoint an attorney general who will show no mercy.
The reason for RICO is so a Bill Barr can't pull a limited hangout. I would even imply that it gives time for the guilty to make arrangements to flee to a country without an extradition treaty. Stress that if you (as in the people) want it to end, that is what needs to be done.

Otherwise, the Dems and RINOs may get that glorious war they masturbate about.

You want truth?

The truth is that the mess this nation presently finds itself in is beyond a purely political remedy. Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats want to attain an honest form of government.

As President Trump implied, they (the politicians) are after us (the citizenry)...he was just in their way. The last thing they want is a government of, by and for the people. To believe otherwise only accomplishes the continuation of the status quo.

Well-run impeachment hearing with or without senate approval will force resignations and expose crimes against the United States.

No, they won't force resignations. Pure pipedream. And "crimes against the United States" only matter if you have a justice department willing to prosecute them, which also won't happen.

Complete waste of time, which is exactly how it would be perceived by most voters.

If Trump, or anybody, has good evidence to impeach and remove swamp crooks from the federal government, then McCarthy better at least impeach so that Trump can primary RINO senators up for reelection in 2024 (McConnell?) who vote not to remove duly impeached crooks from office.

Insights welcome.

No surprised there but this is likely election fodder. If Maga candidates win out, they will put pressure on McCarthy to impeach, investigative, take action. McCarthy will be on the hot seat.

“No, they won’t force resignations.”

Your ignorant opinion or hope? People resign all the time over exposure to misdeeds. Comey, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, Timothy Thibault, Josh Campbell and Andrew McCabe to name a few.

So, despite your condescending attitude people do resign when exposed to wrong doing.

None of whom resigned because they were impeached.

I'm not saying don't do investigations, call witnesses, etc.. I'm just saying that the formal process of impeachment is a waste of time and effort absent the chance of actually convicting the target, and is spun by the media that way whenever it is a Democrat in the crosshairs.

And frankly, that's particularly true and the context of this discussion, which amounts to an argument that Biden and every member of his cabinet should be impeached. There is simply no way to do that without it appearing blatantly political.

Why not just save all the facts you would use for impeachment as ammo for the 2024 campaign to point to the corruption and irresponsibility of the Biden Administration? Because that's the only way we're really going to get rid of them.

The only way to stop dims from using impeachment as a tool is to use it against them. Then they know everytime they do it there will be an equal response

And I will add this:

I think a significant number of swing voters are completely turned off by the Democrat witch hunt against Trump. Even if they don't like Trump himself, they still don't like seeing all that wasted government time and focus going into what they see is purely political issues.

If you don't agree with that, then fine. But if you do, I'd ask why not keep that positive (for us) narrative alive by not ourselves doing the same thing that is ticked off those swing voters? The best way to get rid of all those appointed Democrats is by winning the election in 2024. Every single move we make should be calculated to maximizing the chances that we will appeal to the maximum number of voters.

Impeachment hearings that go nowhere will win applause from the base, and resentment from everyone else.

“Every single move we make should be calculated to maximizing the chances that we will appeal to the maximum number of voters.”

No, people need to be embarrassed into resignation or jailed when exposed. We need to destroy as many members of Biden corrupt, illegal cabinet as we can (they are breaking laws daily). If it extracts a price at the polls so what. We need to save this country, not play nice.

I am sure you think that Trumps mean tweets cost him votes. That is a media lie. Trump received 12,000,000 more votes over his last election. More than any republican candidate in history (biggest second election gain in history too). Nothing about basement Joe Biden’s vote totals is logically possible without massive cheating.

What you urge will have the opposite effect. People won't quit just because they're being impeached, and they're not going to be jailed by Biden's Justice Department. And your constant stream of impeachments will help the Democrats win in 2024 and stay in office for another 4 years.

I am sure you think that Trumps mean tweets cost him votes.

I wouldn't say it was just the tweets, but generally yes. I personally know people who didn't vote for Trump simply because they didn't like the way he behaved. I'd try arguing with them about policy but they said they just couldn't get past the way he acted. Irrational, but their vote still counted. Nothing about basement Joe Biden’s vote totals is logically possible without massive cheating.

And I definitely don't believe that. I think is very possible logically. That doesn't mean there was no cheating, because there certainly was. But the the fact that far more total votes were cast in that election than in any presidential election history is not only logically possible, but a predictable logical consequence of having made voting much, much easier than it was in any prior presidential election.

Ha, we live in two different realities, we are never going to agreed. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It would take too much effort on both are sides to change that. Have a great day and evening. Not being sarcastic, I honestly respect your opinion, just don’t agreed with it.

I won’t be Charlie Browned again.

But the majority of Freepers will keep on voting and pretend it matters.

As you wrote, President Trump will be destroyed. It will be done by the FBI/DOJ with the quiet approval of the never Trumpers and GOP elite.

“What’s the point of impeachment if you cannot convict? Just looks silly to me.”

Agreed.

Here in Minnesota, we had a first term state rep (GOP) file impeachment charges against our Governor (Dem). There was zero percent chance the bill would even have been heard (the state house was Dem controlled). There was zero percent chance that, even if the bill was allowed to come to a vote, that it’d have passed. It was a waste of paper and time.

IMHO, it made the state rep look like a chest puffer and grandstander.
