San Francisco politicians will gather at the Noe Valley Town Square Wednesday afternoon to congratulate themselves for securing state money for a long-desired toilet in the northeast corner of the charming plaza.
Another public toilet in a city with far too few of them is excellent. But the details of this particular commode? They’re mind-boggling, maddening and encapsulate so much of what’s wrong with our city government.
The toilet — just one loo in 150 square feet of space — is projected to cost $1.7 million, about the same as a single-family home in this wildly overpriced city. And it won’t be ready for use until 2025.
Assemblymember Matt Haney (D-San Francisco) secured the $1.7 million from the state for the toilet after hearing “loud and clear” from the community that families needed a bathroom.

Some Rat Party hack made a pretty penny on *that* contract!
Versions of this have been around for decades now. NYC was looking at $2M apiece years and years ago.
Only a government (with a contractor in on the con)...
I thought the city WAS the public toilet.
And my leftist aunt is glad the conservatives are moving out of her state of California.
She is a Bernie supporter and I think is a bit delusional. I wonder who she thinks will pay the bills?
“is projected to cost $1.7 million, about the same as a single-family home in this wildly overpriced city. And it won’t be ready for use until 2025.”
To be more realistic, the cost will come to 12 million and it won’t be ready for use until 2034.
Didn’t a bunch of Democrats MAKE THEIR NAMES by listing the price of toilet seats that the military bought, decades ago?
The foundation on which the toilet is constructed is graft. The roof is corruption.
It’s very expensive for a contractor to do business with any governmental office. Lots of hands are out.
And due to water rationing, you can flush only once per day, and you cannot use captured rain water.
And it will be plugged up and unusable within 36 hours of opening.
Not gold, that’s too cheap.
It’s made of graft and kickbacks.
Hopefully far, far from San Fransisco!
San Fecesisco. What, the streets are no longer good enough to relieve yourself. The elites want to use a toilet? What part of public toilet means doing it on the street don’t they understand?
You got that right.
I remember reading of one of our big cities putting in public self cleaning toilets. They were so successful that after a while the city tore them out.
Some things the cities do makes absolutely no sense.
I remember that! toilet seats and hammers.
