COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio Supreme Court upheld the death sentence Wednesday for an inmate who argued her attorneys didn’t properly raise in her defense trauma she experienced, including gender dysphoria.
The court ruled 6-1 to uphold Victoria Drain’s conviction and death sentence in the 2019 beating death of Christopher Richardson, a fellow inmate in the residential treatment unit at Warren Correctional Institution in southwestern Ohio.
Drain killed Richardson by beating, stabbing and strangling him, according to court records.
Drain had been placed on the unit, which provides inmate psychiatric services, “due to her attempt to self-castrate because she is transgender,” Drain’s attorneys said in a court filing in March 2021.
In their Supreme Court filing, Drain’s attorneys presented evidence of self-harm dating to childhood because of gender dysphoria, or the distress felt when someone’s gender expression does not match their gender identity. Attorneys describe Drain as a transwoman in court documents.
Drain’s attorneys on her appeal countered that her original lawyers didn’t investigate the connection between her gender dysphoria and her mental health and acts of self-harm.

It appears he killed the other prisoner, Richardson, to keep him silent after Richardson backed out of a plot to kill a third prisoner who was a child molester.

Hmm, OK, so if this “gender dysphoria” came about because of child abuse the guy could have some sort of case; however, that wouldn’t explain why he was in there in the first place.

I think some of these prisoners who get taken out by other prisoners probably did the world a favor.

This guy had deep problems long before any Trans-ing took place. Now he’s ‘Draining’ the system, checking all the boxes for special treatment.

I think some of the inmates want special treatment just to get away from the violence and brutality that’s in the prison system. One look at the creep the took out was enough to make anyone shudder if he was going after him.
So the defense lawyers are arguing he/she is mentally ill? The whole of the APA have already said Gender Dysphoria is not a mental illness. Good luck with that.
