The purpose of a fair and open public trial is to provide transparency, the thing that the stacked J6 den of vipers fears the most.
Pelosi is clever. She won’t have dopes on the committee do any more than basic questioning. The bulk of the Qs will be done by the committee counsels. And their Qs will be phrased to limit Trump’s responses and not let him speechify.
