No worries. Eventually those Russian troops will be displaced by Chinese “economic advisors”. Some of those advisors will be carrying weapons. Some of them will be carrying boxes of cash instead.
The result will be the same. The Chinese will win. Everyone else will lose. Trump understood this. So of course he had to go.
The Sandinistas had some of their people train as hijackers and, along with Palestinian terrorists, hijacked planes. One plane was headed to New York when they hijacked it, sticking hand grenades in passenger’s faces and threatening to blow up the plane.

Many assumed he was merely a radical embracing a revolutionary cause, a leftist student like so many of that era. Some called him an internationalist hero like Che Guevara, while others called him a cold-blooded terrorist like Carlos the Jackal. The truth about Patrick Arguello is far more complex. Patrick was a member of Nicaragua’s Sandinista National Liberation Front. Bernie Sanders’ praise of Cuba and Fidel Castro on Sunday is just the tip of the iceberg.
The Democratic front-runner had a romance with the Marxist Sandinista government of Nicaragua in the 1980s and even honeymooned with wife Jane in the Soviet Union in 1988.
Hillary Clinton’s opposition research book on Sanders from 2016 — posted by WikiLeaks after the emails of her campaign chairman, John Podesta, were hacked — has a whole section on the then-Burlington, Vt., mayor’s trip to Nicaragua and chummy support of the Sandinistas in 1985....
(Obama spiritual advisor Rev. Jim) Wallis, together with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright (Obama’s former pastor of 20 years) “rallied support for the communist Nicaraguan regime and protested actions by the United States which supported the anti-communist Contra rebels” (Family World News, February 2009, p. 7).
Third, Wallis and his Sojourners community of fellow-travelers believe Fidel Castro’s Cuba, Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela, Daniel Ortega’s Nicaragua, and the other revolutionary forces “restructuring socialist societies” are the Communist paradises the United States needs to emulate in order to establish “social justice.” Writing in the November 1983 issue of Sojourners, Jacob Laksin notes, “Jim Wallis and Jim Rice drafted what would become the charter of leftist activists committed to the proliferation of Communist revolutions in Central America” (Laksin, “Sojourners: History, Activities and Agendas” in Discoverthenetworks.org., 2005).

So which side will the Free Republic Putinistas support in Nicaragua?
While not technically violating the Monroe Doctrine the presence of an RU military mission in Nicaragua does violate the spirit of a basic US foreign policy. The US should lean heavily on Ortega to tell the Russians to depart. If they don’t want a US military advisory group and need one any state in the western hemisphere other than Cuba or Venezuela is fine. Ortega is just playing games to see if the US even cares about what goes on in his state. This is a big change from both Reagan and Bush administrations who effectively fought a real proxy war against communist insurgents in Salvador and the Sandanistas in Nicaragua. Few Americans realize today how large an effort this was. This is an interesting case to watch to see if the Biden administration is even remotely interested in purely US national interests.
