Russia’s ‘irrecoverable losses’ in Ukraine: more than 90,000 troops dead, disabled, or AWOL

More than 90,000 troops make up Russia’s “irrecoverable” military losses in Ukraine, as reported by the Russian media project iStories (or Vazhnye Istorii). One of the two sources of this information works in the FSB; the other is a former state security officer. [Emphasis added.]

“Irrecoverable losses” is a category that includes servicemen who were killed, went missing, died from their wounds or were disabled and cannot return to military service.

This new estimate is close to the figures stated earlier by the Pentagon and the British Defense Ministry. Last August, the Pentagon estimated that 70–80 thousand Russian troops had been killed or critically wounded since the start of the war. In September, the British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace stated that the Russian army’s total losses exceeded 80,000; of those, about 25,000 were thought to have been killed.

It takes a special, deliberate kind of stupid to believe this was caused by a Ukrainian missile-defense system.

Your information operations campaign might have a little more credibility if you acknowledged at least the most obvious of Russia’s reverses. As it is it is much too ham fisted to be believable.

You can repeat the media propaganda as long as you wish, the facts are admitted officially by both sides.

From the article:

“The Ukrainian military’s General Staff states that, as of the morning of October 12, 63,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukraine.”

And there would be thousands of them.

With the Ukrainians posting pics of them 24/7.

Yet...nada.

Sometimes you learn the most from what is not said.

“Pretty damned low opinion of the Russians you have if you believe they are just as likely to leave their comrades behind to rot in the mud the way they leave their tanks behind.”

I saw that, but that can’t be true, it’s just too high

probably a mis-translation ... instead of “killed” it should have said “removed” or something similar that would include wounded

Let me get this straight:

Your opinion is that the Ukrainians don’t post dead Russians because there are none?

So all those tens of thousands of destroyed Russian war machines which the Ukrainians HAVE documented were destroyed but their operators all jumped clear just in time, like in the old G.I. Joe cartoons?

You think that it would HELP the Ukrainians PR campaign to show not just the maps of reclaimed territory, and all the destroyed Russian hardware but the actual dead bodies? “So I’m Wolodymir, here inside this formerly Russian tank, where you can see beside me all the Russian bodies that were left behind by their cowardly comrades.”

Ukraine would post pics of hundreds of dead Russians in a heart beat. 24/7 for months. Maybe even make a stamp of it.

You not even being able to acknowledge that shows how brainwashed you are with propaganda.

“Your opinion is that the Ukrainians don’t post dead Russians because there are none?”

More likely “casualties.” Sadly, far too often journalists misinterpret “casualties”, which is a military term that includes killed, wounded and missing, as only “killed in action.” I’ve seen this not only in the Ukraine war, but also in almost every conflict. It’s just another example of journalists having the only a superficial understanding of the topic they report on.

90,000 effectives equate to about ten divisions, which is a heck of a lot of soldiers to lose in a war of seven months. Add in support equipment (tanks, trucks, etc.) and this has been awfully expensive for Russia.

Numbers in war - the only thing slightly more ephemeral are actual spirits shown on a Ghosthunters episode.

The war is a terrible tragedy. So many young men killed and maimed. It’s especially tragic that european christians are killing european christians. It can’t go on much longer though, as russia has run out of soldiers. They ran out of tanks and missiles months ago and putin died of cancer. Start planning your victory parade through moscow now. It’s amazing that the russkies have so many killed and the ukraine has only had a couple of men with acne and hangnails. I guess they bear a charmed life.

“ can’t be the claimed 6000, because Putin wouldn’t need to call up 300,000 replacements if it was only 6000 killed, and Russia wouldn’t be in retreat now”
************************************************************************

It’s not 300,000 REPLACEMENTS; it’s a SURGE of NEW FORCES to add onto the existing numbers of troops. It’s to overcome the problem of being consistently outnumbered by the Ukrainian forces.

“… Did you see this in today’s news:

-Russia ‘is rounding up HOMELESS people as part of its military mobilisation’: Men ‘are grabbed while queueing up for food and forced onto buses’
-Witnesses have described homeless men being loaded onto buses in Moscow…”

They’re also rousting patients from hospitals’ ICUs and from hospice patients. The fact that they are dragooning teenagers from orphanages is unseemly. /sarc
