A mandatory Ponzi scheme.
Why doesn’t she trim her grandchildren’s hair herself?
Easy to snip 1/2 inch without disastrous results.
As I said.
...still a Ponzi scheme...
Social Security is a pay-as-you-go system. Current contributors pay for current beneficiaries. It transfers income from the current generation of workers to the current generation of retirees, with the promise that there will be another generation of workers to pay for the current generation of workers’ retirement. It does not require a doubling of participants every time a payment is made to a current beneficiary as in a Ponzi scheme or a geometric increase in the number of participants.
In its essence, Social Security is a contract between generations, binding together the interests of both young and old in a system that provides protection to all.
Well...that was true when it was primarily Retirees who got SS...now it is a bunch of othet people eating off the system.
There are still people working and putting into the system; with a Ponzi scheme, two people have to be added for one person’s withdrawal and the original folks would get their money first.
Actually it’s going to go down. The standard Medicare Part B premium will drop to $164.90 in 2023. That’s a decrease of $5.20 per month from 2022. Those with incomes greater than $97,000 will pay more than this, but their 2023 premiums will also be a bit lower than their 2022 premiums.
Not much but at least it isn’t going to jump 30 dollars like it did in 2022. They really should reduce it more as the reason they increased in 2022 was due to a drug the FDA was going to approve and then decided not to because of bad study report.
Yes, those will go up. The official 2023 VA Disability Pay Rates will be published on October 13, 2022. The 2023 VA Disability Rates increase could be as high as 8.9% and that estimate is based on the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) 2023 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).
This is so true. Druggie parents, mentally unstable parents, divorces, parent or parents walk away.
My sister and I were raised/adopted by our maternal grand-parents after our parents lost two baby boys. Sister and I born in between the two. Parents divorced, both blamed the other, even though one was crib death and one was tragic accident. Dad put us in an orphanage for a while back in 60’s. We were getting ready to be adopted, separated and my grandparents stepped in. We had a good life and even saw my mom and her new family over the years. Dad, only seen him a few times walking out of bar when we walked to school.
So many parents are druggies, mentally unstable, lost jobs, didn’t want their kids, etc. Grandparents step in for many reasons.
Definition of Ponzi scheme- “A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investing scam which generates returns for earlier investors with money taken from later investors. It eventually bottoms out when the flood of new investors dries up and there isn’t enough money to go around. At that point, the schemes unravel.”

However, as you say, SS is mandatory.
But SS essentially works (or doesn’t) the same way a Ponzi scheme does.
Our children are paying for our SS. But it’s not enough. The only reason it hasn’t unraveled is the feds have to keep artificially pouring money into the scheme.
From what my aunt told me, my story is a lot like yours.
We were being considered to be put up for adoption when
my brother was 7 and I was 3.
My grandparents stepped in and took us into their home.
I spent that first year putting my grandparents through
hell telling them I hated them, and I wanted my father
back.
While they may have expected it to only be a few years, it
turned into at least 15.
My mother had her issues, and my father had a new family.
My father did play a large roll in my early adult life,
and my stepmother was incredibly gracious to me.
Today I have a close relationship with my three bothers
and one sister from two marriages.
Three of us get together often, and the other two join
the three of us for a FaceTime call each Sunday afternoon
at 05:00 pm, for 90 minutes or so.
Thanks for sharing. We were fortunate to have know our Mom, visited her, shared holidays. I’m glad you all are close vs. when younger.
Thank you for the nice response. Best wishes to you and your family.
