“On Sunday, Nov. 6, California residents will have to set their clocks back by one hour.”

That’s a lie!

There is no California law that requires people to set their clocks back on November 6th.

Correct. I lived in Columbus, GA for four years. Five miles west, over the river, Phenix City, AL was technically on Central Time. The Post Offices obeyed that, but nobody wlse did, because most people in the area lived on Columbus' ET, as Columbus is 20 times the size of Phenix City.

Then is there a federal law, which requires the time to change?

A popular “revolt” would be funny. businesses and people post their hours in DST and people leave their clocks and watches on DST.

Frankly, I think the entire world should be on GMT. It just means that the position of the sun relative to the clock depends on where you are. 23:59 in Hawaii puts the sun pretty high in the sky.

While technically true if you don’t change your clock life gets a little confusing as literally everything around you will be an hour “behind” you. But sure, you can leave your clock as is.
