It’s pretty obvious the wrong degree of retaliation by NATO starts WWIII. Belarus just threw their hat into the ring as well.

ST. PETERSBURG. October 10. /TASS/. Russia will respond toughly, if the Kiev regime continues attempts to carry out terror attacks on Russian territory, President of Russia Vladimir Putin said on Monday.

“If attempts continue to carry out terror attacks on our territory, Russia’s responses will be tough and by their scope correspond to the level of threats created for the Russian Federation,” the head of state said at a meeting with members of Russia’s Security Council.

“No one must have any doubts about that,” Putin stressed.

By its acts, the Kiev regime has put itself on a par with international terrorist organizations and, therefore, these crimes simply cannot be left unanswered, the Russian leader said.

As Putin said, “this morning, at the suggestion of the Defense Ministry and under a plan of the Russian General Staff, a massive strike by Russia’s long-range air-, sea- and ground-based precision weapons was delivered against Ukrainian energy, military command and communications facilities.”

The president instructed the defense minister “to report on the results.”

Russian Security Council meeting

The Russian Security Council meeting was attended by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Speakers of both houses of parliament Valentina Matviyenko and Vyacheslav Volodin, Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, Presidential Administration Head Anton Vaino, Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, Federal Security Service Director Alexander Bortnikov, Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergey Naryshkin and Special Russian Presidential Representative for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport Sergey Ivanov.

After the president’s speech, the meeting continued its work behind closed doors.

this won’t last

Russia is running out of missiles

this is merely a desperate lashing-out by a frustrated old man in the Kremlin whose supposed “easy conquest” of Ukraine just won’t end

So Russia can invade the Ukraine, attack cities, powerplants, infrastructure, and civilians - and "annex" lands - but if the Ukrainians attack a target in Russia itself, they will resume yet more attacks against cities, powerplants, infrastructure, and civilians.

Sure - makes sense if you're a Russian.

Russian territory?

All the attacks have been on sovereign Ukraine's territory. Bullshit referendum results change nothing. The international community sticks to the 1991 borders as internationally negotiated and signed off multiple times by Russia in front of witnesses from over a dozen countries. A referendum held under military occupation which didn't even allow the status quo to be chosen has no legitimacy. And Russia knows it.

As for negotiation, I'm with JFK.
