~ Hall of Heroes ~ Robert F. Stryker Info from here. | | Robert F. Stryker (November 9, 1944-November 7, 1967) was a United States Army soldier received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Vietnam War. He is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery Throop, New York. The Army Stryker vehicle is named in his and PFC Stuart S. Stryker's honor. | Rank and organization: Specialist Four, U.S. Army, Company C, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division. Place and date: Near Loc Ninh, Republic of Vietnam, November 7, 1967. Entered service at: Throop, N.Y. Born: November 9, 1944, Auburn, N.Y. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Specialist Stryker, U.S. Army, distinguished himself while serving with Company C. Spec. Stryker was serving as a grenadier in a multicompany reconnaissance in force near Loc Ninh. As his unit moved through the dense underbrush, it was suddenly met with a hail of rocket, automatic weapons and small arms fire from enemy forces concealed in fortified bunkers and in the surrounding trees. Reacting quickly, Spec. Stryker fired into the enemy positions with his grenade launcher. During the devastating exchange of fire, Spec. Stryker detected enemy elements attempting to encircle his company and isolate it from the main body of the friendly force. Undaunted by the enemy machinegun and small-arms fire, Spec. Stryker repeatedly fired grenades into the trees, killing enemy snipers and enabling his comrades to sever the attempted encirclement. As the battle continued, Spec. Stryker observed several wounded members of his squad in the killing zone of an enemy claymore mine. With complete disregard for his safety, he threw himself upon the mine as it was detonated. He was mortally wounded as his body absorbed the blast and shielded his comrades from the explosion. His unselfish actions were responsible for saving the lives of at least 6 of his fellow soldiers. Spec. Stryker's great personal bravery was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.
| Please remember the Canteen is here to honor, support and entertain our troops and their families. This is a politics-free zone! Thanks for helping us in our mission! |

Howdy, Kathy.
Whew, I can’t imagine making the decision Spec. Stryker made. What a hero he was.
Have you looked out your window? The sun is shining!!! It’s been a mighty ugly couple of days up there so it’s nice to see. Lots of snow on the mountain peaks after all the precipitation last night and today.

Happy Thanksgiving
In every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6
A study by psychologist Robert Emmons divided volunteers into three groups that each made weekly entries in journals. One group wrote five things they were grateful for. One described five daily hassles. And a control group listed five events that had impacted them in a small way. The results of the study revealed that those in the gratitude group felt better about their lives overall, were more optimistic about the future, and reported fewer health problems.
Giving thanks has a way of changing the way we look at life. Thanksgiving can even make us happier.
The Bible has long extolled the benefits of giving thanks to God, as doing so reminds us of His character. The Psalms repeatedly call God’s people to give Him thanks because “the Lord is good and his love endures forever” (Psalm 100:5) and to thank Him for His unfailing love and wonderful deeds (107:8, 15, 21, 31).
As the apostle Paul closed his letter to the Philippians—the letter itself a kind of thank-you note to a church that had supported him—he linked thankful prayers with the peace of God “which transcends all understanding” (4:7). When we focus on God and His goodness, we find that we can pray without anxiety, in every situation, with thanksgiving. Giving thanks brings us a peace that uniquely guards our hearts and minds and changes the way we look at life. A heart full of gratitude nurtures a spirit of joy. — Elisa Morgan
What threatens your sense of gratitude? How is God calling you to a “happy thanksgiving” as you bring your needs before Him?
Father in heaven, where I see problems, grant me a spirit of gratitude and grateful praise.

Good evening, radu...hope your feetsies have recovered from a good day at the museum. Did you enjoy your evening gathering?
The wind seems to have stopped blowing and we are even seeing patches of sun. Only a single outage last night, but after the short outage, no more flickering. My deck is filled with little branches off the trees. Most of the leaves have blown away.

One of my main reasons for getting a multi-colored lighted keyboard...I didn’t HAVE to turn on the light. LOL!!

Hey there, Kathy.
No, can’t say the feetsies have recovered yet. They got a workout this weekend but it was loads of fun. We didn’t get out of there until 5:00 Friday and almost 4:00 yesterday. Our normal closing time is 3:00.
We did enjoy last evening at our friend’s birthday party, though it was mighty brisk. A nice fire in the fire pit helped keep us comfy. I didn’t check to see if we had frost before going to bed but we were under an advisory. We’re under one again tonight. brrrrrr
I noticed your sunshine a little while ago when I looked in on the cam. I was surprised since it was so dreary when I looked this afternoon. I was glad to see the wind had died down a lot. There were whitecaps on. the lake yesterday. A gust apparently shoved an Otter that was parked at the edge of the lake hard enough to snap its tiedowns, then pushed it several yards into a Beaver that was also parked on the lake. Fortunately neither plane was damaged too bad but any damage sux.
Y’all are lucky there weren’t more power outages. I was afraid the wind would knock down a lot of trees or big limbs onto power lines, the way it was howling yesterday. The flickering must have been what had the cam acting all hinky for a while.
I guess the wind did something positive, at least. Got rid of your leaves. LOL Sticks can be swept of the deck while they’re wet a LOT easier than leaves can.
It sure stripped the leaves off the trees all over the area.

Haven’t checked out the mountains yet, but was commenting to myself coming home from work yesterday that none of the front mountains had snow anymore. And the back ones had hardly any...
The sun was nice while it was here, but has since departed, and it’s back to looking like rain (and a possibility of snow...slight). They say it will get down to 32 by morning, but....then back to more rain.
