Officials at Vanderbilt University Medical Center announced Friday that they are pausing gender-affirming surgeries for minors in order to review their practices.
The news, delivered in a letter sent to a lawmaker who has demanded an end to the surgeries, was publicly released Friday afternoon. It comes amid mounting political pressure from Tennessee's Republican leaders—many of whom are running for reelection—who called for an investigation into the private nonprofit hospital after videos surfaced on social media last month of a doctor touting that gender-affirming procedures are "huge money makers." Another video showed a staffer saying anyone with a religious objection should quit.
None of the politicians could point to a specific law that the hospital had violated, and no agency to date has committed to an investigation. Republican Gov. Bill Lee's office said they had passed their concerns to the Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, but his office has not commented on whether he is looking into the Nashville-based hospital.
"We are pausing gender affirmation surgeries on patients under age 18 while we complete this review, which may take several months," wrote C. Wright Pinson, VUMC's deputy CEO and chief health system officer.
The GOP-dominated Legislature is scheduled to reconvene in January, and many lawmakers have vowed to introduce legislation further limit gender-affirming treatments. If successful, it's unclear if VUMC would be allowed to resume gender-affirming surgeries for minors, regardless of their internal review.

Outstanding school that’s now stuck on stupid.
As a side note, every nation in history and beyond fell because of these acts, child sacrifice and other abominations.
“gender-affirming” sounds like activist language, not unlike “pro choice,” in order to avoid the reality of the situation.
Yeah, but at least they have a good football team.
Now if only the rest would.
Hopkins long ago stopped doing this nonsense, but that was before it was cool. Now they’re in it again, just like everyone else.
May sanity reign again and doctors act like doctors and ignore the “politics”.
LOL...Hawaii, Elon, and Northern Illinois.
All powerhouses to be reckoned with.
At least we won our Homecoming.
I heard Vanderbilt was asking the NCAA to allow Oklahoma to join the SEC now, so they can get a conference win.
Gender affirmation surgeries = permanent disfigurement of individuals with temporary body image issues.
LOL, 49-0 isn’t too good...
I think the SEC has enough teams.
Lol
Nicely done!
Well once the election is over on November 8th and Governor Bill Lee the Republican who said there should be some of probe over this safely gets re-elected, I suspect the surgeries will resume.
Any ending of these surgeries will not happen without massive public pressure including obviously the legislature controlled by the GOP in Tennessee and so on.
As a side note, every nation in history and beyond fell

That is a part of the process as I see it. All things change
in some manner or other over time either for good, bad
or no longer needed. Make the most of one’s allotted time
and be ready to go when the call comes.
Affirming their gender would actually mean admitting that their DNA is the real deal. No butchery or drug cocktails will alter their DNA.
The original institution, Johns Hopkins, that pioneered trans surgery in this country halted the procedures for 40 years because the outcomes were worse in those that had surgery. The chief surgeon, Paul McHugh, who stopped that avenue in 1965 is speaking out again about the damage being done especially in children.

Follow the money.
I would say “this is so hard to believe” - hard to believe that a place with formerly very high standards has fallen so low. But, haha, it’s not hard to believe at all.
The bottom line is “stock up on ammunition” and “if you don’t have a place that’s out of the city, better find one” because this is going to get so much worse.
“Gender affirmation surgeries = permanent disfigurement of individuals with temporary body image issues.”
How in the world can college-trained doctors even consider castrating a young boy that doesn’t know his own mind?
This is one of the worst things I’ve ever heard of.
