Officials at Vanderbilt University Medical Center announced Friday that they are pausing gender-affirming surgeries for minors in order to review their practices.
The news, delivered in a letter sent to a lawmaker who has demanded an end to the surgeries, was publicly released Friday afternoon. It comes amid mounting political pressure from Tennessee's Republican leaders—many of whom are running for reelection—who called for an investigation into the private nonprofit hospital after videos surfaced on social media last month of a doctor touting that gender-affirming procedures are "huge money makers." Another video showed a staffer saying anyone with a religious objection should quit.
None of the politicians could point to a specific law that the hospital had violated, and no agency to date has committed to an investigation. Republican Gov. Bill Lee's office said they had passed their concerns to the Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, but his office has not commented on whether he is looking into the Nashville-based hospital.
"We are pausing gender affirmation surgeries on patients under age 18 while we complete this review, which may take several months," wrote C. Wright Pinson, VUMC's deputy CEO and chief health system officer.
The GOP-dominated Legislature is scheduled to reconvene in January, and many lawmakers have vowed to introduce legislation further limit gender-affirming treatments. If successful, it's unclear if VUMC would be allowed to resume gender-affirming surgeries for minors, regardless of their internal review.

Thank you, Tucker. He went postal on Vandy a couple of weeks back. I guess someone saw the videos he showed. Don’t know what the final outcome will be, but the hubris of the people running these departments are amazing. They love to make videos of themselves talking about how exciting to is to mutilate children. They are truly sick people and they run way too many things.

I disagree. No addadicktome or chopadisckoffme surgery changes anyone’s sex. Merely altering the outward appearance or inducing any drugs changes one’s sex.
It’s absolutely hideous what leftist have done with the language. They play these games with words. Is it gender or sex? In either case, scientifically, there are only two sexes, male and female. The same is true for gender. They are synonyms.
How in the world does any sane, knowledgeable person have any trust in doctors that believe otherwise? I’m having enough difficulty right now trusting doctors and all corporate medicine (hospitals/clinics, etc.) based on their insistence to get vaxed and boosted, without regard to the growing evidence of the harm it does to healthy people. Doctors are just following corporate policies. Very few have the guts to speak out. What ever happened to, ‘do no harm’?

I think inevitably there will be Two Mega Conferences: The Big Ten and the Pac-12 will merge, and the SEC and ACC will merge, and both will pick up teams from the Big 12.
Each Mega Conference will have their own TV deal, and playoffs with the winners of the two conference meeting in the National Championship Game.

You’re probably right. Although, I have long thought there should be conference realignment to four conferences, each with a championship, with the winners going to a playoff. Create a new division for the remaining Div 1A teams not in the four conferences. Call it the auto parts-fast food bowl division.
They are ranked approximately this year.
“Gender-affirming” mutilations of minors is anything but. The visible outward manifestations of the biological sex characteristics are destroyed, and some kind of
“corrective” cosmetic surgery and hormone treatments used to present the illusion that something basic was changed.
The only “transgender” alteration was to convert a biological male into a neuter, or a biological female into a neuter, in a process that is, for all practical purposes, irreversible.
Body image must be some kind of curse, visited upon those weak of morality or self-esteem.

There is some guy who thinks he is an alien and has had multiple surgeries to add silicon prosthetics, body tatoos, and has had fingers and toes amputated.
Would Vanderbuilt do these surgeries to a five year old who identifies as a Tyrannosaurus Rex, or do they only do that for a Trannysaurus Rex?
“Gender affirming” means “sex denying.” Sex is innate and immutable. “Gender,” in some peoples’ minds, is what one identifies as.
This kind of surgery is a failed attempt to change the body to fool the owner into thinking that his/her body conforms to his/her fantasy.
A man who had his organ sliced and fashioned into a pretend female organ is a man who has had his organ sliced and fashioned into a pretend female organ.
