A new PayPal policy update appears to authorize the company to pull a significant sum of money from the accounts of users who spread “misinformation.
”Effective November 3, the new conditions will be added to the restricted activity section of the PayPal User agreement, the Daily Wire first reported. Changes include prohibitions on “the sending, posting, or publication of any messages, content, or materials” that “promote misinformation.
” While the prior policy already forbade “hate,” “intolerance,” and discrimination, the new one now also explicitly applies to specific “protected groups” and “individuals or groups based on protected characteristics.” Identities under this umbrella include race, religion, gender or gender identity, and sexual orientation.
“The promotion of hate, violence, racial or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory” would also be deemed a violation of the policy and possible grounds for penalty,” according to the soon-to-be-launched acceptable use policy. The financial tech firm’s current rulebook doesn’t cite these activities.
Breaking the rule against misinformation and hate speech “may subject you to damages, including liquidated damages of $2,500.00 U.S. dollars per violation, which may be debited directly from your PayPal account,” the company warns. In a user agreement, account holders accept and attest that the penalty is “presently a reasonable minimum estimate of PayPal’s actual damages” due to the expense the firm incurs by accounting for the violations as well as damage to its reputation.
“Under existing law, PayPal has the ability as a private company to implement this type of viewpoint-discriminatory policy,” Aaron Terr, a senior program officer at the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, told the Daily Wire. “Whatever motivation PayPal has for establishing these vague new categories of prohibited expression, they will almost certainly have a severe chilling effect on users’ speech.

Paypal is a "private company"? LOL!
They are a government crony company. Or is it government coersion? Either way, like most Big woke companies, they are closely attached to the government.
I started paying close attention to ebay when I was 7 or 8 years old. By the time I was 10 I knew Paypal was toxic.
There used to be a website, www.paypalsucks.com I believe.
Also, ebay community forums are probably still active. That’s where you learn how thoroughly Paypal can ruin your day.
I shop online a lot, and if I run across a site that requires payment via Paypal, they lose me.
I’m sure they will debit and charge interest.
Talk about a completely wasted effort.
Ayn Rand inspired many conservatives to look uncritically at all businessmen. To oppose big business in any way was "Collectivist."
Rand sought to replace Christianity with Capitalism. To promote a moral compass guided by Man's Reason and "Rational Selfishness" rather than by Christ.
Havent used them in maybe 7+ yrs..they dont have my bank account info, just a credit card which I tried removing now but it wouldnt delete..so I went to close account and it said I have to call them in order to do that

I know. That's why I said they were "technically" a private company.
That's how the courts will view it, so I don't see a First Amendment case.
And Treason prospers through these “technicalities” that our courts ignore.
Then they will call their pals over at the IRS to take a deeper look at your assets, probably
After th Twitter deal is closed, maybe Elon Musk can buy back PayPal.
Just hope you don’t have a credit card or bank account linked to your PayPal account.
I thought they went public years ago.
I bet if someone would dig deep they would find conversations between Paypal managers and Biden administration officials that show that this action was suggested/encouraged by our government.
Now that the left has been shown they can get away with anything at all without any repercussions, they have gone big. And our GOP “leadership” remains quiet.
I was gonna disagree with you on this and say, based on the line, close to the beginning, in their AUP..."Prohibited Activities - You may not use the PayPal service for activities that...", it's only PayPal. But then I followed a link in their AUP to their “Restricted Activities and Holds” section of the PayPal User Agreement that says...
"In connection with your use of our websites, your PayPal account, the PayPal services, or in the course of your interactions with PayPal, other PayPal customers, or third parties, you must not:"
"Breach this user agreement, the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy, the Commercial Entity Agreements (if they apply to you), the PayPal Balance Terms and Conditions (if it applies to you), or any other agreement between you and PayPal..."
I think they CAN stalk and penalize you. No doubt, they can search for "unacceptable use" PRIOR to November 3rd. Gonna have to drop PayPal.
Here we go again:
Show of hands by dumbass FReepers still using paypal...
No excuse.
F-— Pay Pal!
You are correct. I hope they do this and lose their ass in court with hefty monetary penalties.
From 2020. This is why they want your $2,500...
