A new PayPal policy update appears to authorize the company to pull a significant sum of money from the accounts of users who spread “misinformation.
”Effective November 3, the new conditions will be added to the restricted activity section of the PayPal User agreement, the Daily Wire first reported. Changes include prohibitions on “the sending, posting, or publication of any messages, content, or materials” that “promote misinformation.
” While the prior policy already forbade “hate,” “intolerance,” and discrimination, the new one now also explicitly applies to specific “protected groups” and “individuals or groups based on protected characteristics.” Identities under this umbrella include race, religion, gender or gender identity, and sexual orientation.
“The promotion of hate, violence, racial or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory” would also be deemed a violation of the policy and possible grounds for penalty,” according to the soon-to-be-launched acceptable use policy. The financial tech firm’s current rulebook doesn’t cite these activities.
Breaking the rule against misinformation and hate speech “may subject you to damages, including liquidated damages of $2,500.00 U.S. dollars per violation, which may be debited directly from your PayPal account,” the company warns. In a user agreement, account holders accept and attest that the penalty is “presently a reasonable minimum estimate of PayPal’s actual damages” due to the expense the firm incurs by accounting for the violations as well as damage to its reputation.
“Under existing law, PayPal has the ability as a private company to implement this type of viewpoint-discriminatory policy,” Aaron Terr, a senior program officer at the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, told the Daily Wire. “Whatever motivation PayPal has for establishing these vague new categories of prohibited expression, they will almost certainly have a severe chilling effect on users’ speech.

Not true. Big business has been moving ever Leftward since the 1960s. Yet they've only gotten bigger and richer.
Hollywood has always produced a certain amount of leftist "passion projects" that lose money. They don't mind. The profit centers will subsidize the passion projects.
Gillette lost some money when it had that tranny commercial. No problem. It's the cost of doing business, and they're happy to pay it.
When all your competitors are woke, when the woke have the power to deplatform any conservative startup, where can conservative consumers go?
Big Companies are in the risk avoidance business. They generally do not take drastic steps unless not taking the step results in significantly increased risks, such as lawsuits. When a big company decides to go woke very publicly look at what’s going on behind the scenes (who’s threatening them)
Anything you say or write in a recorded form that is against this, regardless of being connected to a PayPal transaction, gets them $2,500.
Guilty until the far left bass tards get your money. I’ve never used the corrupt Paypal and never will.
It means if you’re a conservative speaker, and get paid speaking fees via PayPal, they’ll take your money if you don’t toe the Communist Party Line. If you say, sell Trump merchandise and use PP, they take your money because of your speech. Isn’t it nice to have better people than you decide what you’re allowed to think and say, and who are there to provide a helpful whipping to remind you of your place?
I can't 'cancel' it because I've never used it.
Oh well....
I'd like all of that Pro Business legislation Republicans handed business over the years back.
Talk about a completely wasted effort.
Hope people sue the crap out of them.
No one I know believes that the Ds will willingly hand over control of the government if they lose on 11/8/22.
Gab pay is a much better alternative
Just saying what should happen to them.
You can always challenge their contract as an illegal Adhesion Contract.
But I don't see how the First Amendment would apply, as technically PayPal is a private company.
There is no legal definition of misinformation. It allows Paypal to decide what it likes and what it doesn’t like.
The logical next step is for banks to steal money from your account. Why not? banks are payment processors.
These actions are illegal and unconstitutional, but will never be prosecuted by the government. That means that it’s actually the government that is taking the money.
Next person who says “Sweet land of liberty” owes me a beer or two.
Paypal is more important to the American economy than General Motors ever was.
When I learned about this, this morning on Twitter, I went to delete my PayPal account... they wouldn’t allow me to saying there was a ‘payment in progress’ ... there wasn’t. I removed my debit card from the account. You would have to be stupid to keep a PayPal account after becoming aware of this policy. My sense is they will try to mitigate it, the damage is already done.
No way this “fine” can stand up in court.
God willing there will come a day when they’re prosecuted by specially-constituted Treason tribunals.
Sounds like theft to me.
Want to bet the progressive vermin will try to apply this to folks who once had PayPal accounts?
At any rate: at the root of this I expect you will find advocacy for homosexuality and other perversions, medical mutilations and the like.
From Youtube to Paypal to others
Do they have a bunch of woke affirmative action hires that live in a bubble??
talk about bad Business
