Rivian recalling nearly all its vehicles over loose fastener

IRVINE, Calif. -- Electric truck and SUV maker Rivian Automotive said Friday it is recalling almost all the vehicles it has delivered to customers in order to tighten a loose fastener that could potentially affect drivers' ability to steer.

The company, which was founded in 2009, said it is recalling about 13,000 vehicles because a fastener connecting the vehicles' front upper-control arm and steering knuckle may not be torqued enough.

What a joke

How is it a joke? It is a new vehicle, and a tiny adjustment that has nothing to do with the inherent design of the vehicle is being addressed.

I wouldn't want a Rivian, but the recall is trivial.

EV , the Future of Failure

I wouldn't want an EV, but a loose control arm bolt has NOTHING to do with the fact that it is an EV.

The problem with electric vehicles is that they are not built on a foundation of testing and evolution.

Testing and evolution is the rock on which gasoline/diesel vehicles are built. They have been tested by daily use for about 100 years now and the experience of all this daily use has led to the long steady evolution into today's automobiles and trucks (plus motorcycle, boat, and aircraft engines, for that matter).

EVs sprang directly from the head of Zeus (well, Musk). They have no history, no experience.

Imagine a family-owned company needs a new CEO. Should the board of directors choose a man with 35 years of experience in every facet of the business or should they choose the owner's grandson, who has NO experience, but just graduated from Harvard?

"I live way out in the sticks."

.

I've lived many places - the suburbs, outskirts of cities,
small towns, (and briefly downtown Phoenix, AZ) as well
as in three different locations "in the sticks".

I was much more content & happy out in the boonies.
I'm getting on to that age when I'm starting to think about retirement.

And yes - 'to the sticks' it will be.
But WHERE? Hmmmmmm....

To folks who are in the market for an EV truck, not a big deal. Because, if they wanted a serviceable truck, they would buy a conventional one. These are for people who want an EV, that looks like a truck.

The boon-dockish places I've lived in the past were -

Boones Mill Virginia, Glide Oregon, and a lonely place in Lane county
Oregon.

The North Umpqua River - Glide, Oregon

" a fastener connecting the vehicles' front upper-control arm and steering knuckle may not be torqued enough" If that bolt comes loose and falls out, you WILL crash.

I’ve seen a couple of them on the road. They look like something you would buy to impress your rich liberal friends.
