DENVER (AP) — The Colorado baker who won a partial Supreme Court victory after refusing on religious grounds to make a gay couple’s wedding cake a decade ago is challenging a separate ruling he violated the state’s anti-discrimination law by refusing to make a cake celebrating a gender transition.
A lawyer for Jack Phillips on Wednesday urged Colorado’s appeals court — largely on procedural grounds — to overturn last year’s ruling in a lawsuit brought by a transgender woman.
The woman, Autumn Scardina, called Phillips’ suburban Denver cake shop in 2017 requesting a birthday cake that had blue frosting on the outside and was pink inside to celebrate her gender transition. At trial last year, Phillips, a Christian, testified he did not think someone could change genders and he would not celebrate “somebody who thinks that they can.”
Jake Warner, an attorney representing Phillips from the conservative Christian legal advocacy group Alliance Defending Freedom, said the ruling was wrong. He said requiring Phillips to create a cake with a message contrary to his religious beliefs amounts to forcing him to say something he does not believe, violating his right to free speech.

I believe that’s already been tried and the response was, “We reserve the right to refuse service for any reason”, which was accepted.

I believe the scam has a name: ‘Crazy money’. Kid gets disability checks from Social Security until age 18. Doesn’t have to be autism, any kind of crazy will do the trick. Kid is totally out of control in school, gets diagnosed, ka-ching!

At a more fundamental level, these cakes represent artistic expression, and forcing someone to make a cake is forcing someone to say something or express something they don’t believe. The freedom of speech is includes the freedom from compelled speech.
Technically, transgender people don’t even exist. They just take hormones and mutilate their privates to fulfill their delusions.
This is clearly not one of their “standard” cakes. It’s a “special order”. I would say of course...and charge them up the Wazzoo. Then explain that all special orders are individually priced to insure a generous profit margin because it requires time away from normal activities.

AKA crazy checks. As in my keed gets $800 a month. And more than one crazy keed, then mama is eating lobster and steaks with her boyfriend twice a week.
Charge them up the wazoo, with payment in advance for all complicated cakes. The gays and trans-loons will take a hike. And look for someone else’s bakery to victimize for a payday.

Why not just bake beautiful, generic cake designs and hand the customers a bag of plastic letters to write whatever message they want after they get home?

The other reason is that it is viewed as a HUGE growth industry for the medical industry. It’s all pure evil.
That’s always been my contention, too. Religion has nothing to do with it. There is male and female and you can’t change your DNA. I’s simple science. Why should I be FORCED to participate in your “so called transition”. Take your business elsewhere.

The referenced election year article doesn't mention 14th Amendment (14A) protections, correction welcome, from state abridgment of constitutionally enumerated personal rights.

The article didn't mention 14A because its author is probably aware (clueless?) that the very corrupt, alleged election-stealing Democratic and RINO controlled Congress is stubbornly refusing to do its constitutional duty to make laws that discourage state actors from abridging constitutionally enumerated protections, freedoms of religious expression and speech in this example.
In other words, it's actually up to Trump's red tsunami of patriot supports to rescue Jack Phillips from corrupt federal and state governments by electing Trump-endorsed MAGA candidates to federal and state offices in November who will help to support federal bills that strengthen constitutionally enumerated rights, and kill state bills that weaken such rights.
